We still can't block anyone!

There was one play to the right where the defender got penetration and stopped the play for a loss. The announcers were saying that it looked like Klock was trying to get into the defender's legs, but couldn't.

It's fine to have AB's cut blocking, but man alive let the OL engage and sustain a block.

BC defense is really stout... I think we will get better, not sure what we thought we were going to do against the number D from last year...

yep, did you notice how many predicted we would beat BC by 14-20 pts, geez ,REALITY ck

I don't think the run blocking is as bad as it showed today, and I doubt the pass blocking is really that good, either. Coach Johnson evidently complained about the footing and how slippery the long grass was in the rain today, and the announcers noted that it was hurting the pass rush of both teams. It definitely made it tougher for whoever was the aggressor on any given play trying to get any kind of burst within the first 2-3 steps.

Plus, BC's defense is really, really good. You could make an argument that's as good a defense as Tech will see all season.

Their defense is not that good. Their stats were skewed by playing a really weak schedule and catching FSU and Louisville shorthanded. What they did is sell out to screw up the mesh point. It worked a lot last year. I'm not saying the BC defense is bad, but it isn't as great as the hype. We will see better front sevens and must improve the blocking immensely.

Their defense is most certainly "that good" and then some. When you consider how often their offense failed to produce, then their defensive effort is even MORE impressive. They were #1 in total defense in FBS last year alongside having one of the worst offenses in FBS.

They're fast, physical, well-coached, and technically sound. They also had an entire offseason to prepare for Georgia Tech's offense. Will teams like Clemson and Miami potentially have better athletes? Yes. But, all other things considered, you can still make a decent argument BC's the best defense Tech will see all year.

That is hype. They lost all of their ACC games last year including Wake and Syracuse. If you look at their schedule, it was incredibly weak, OOC was Maine, Howard, and a directional school.

They lost all their ACC games because they had no offense. They averaged 9.1 ppg in ACC play. Their defense IS very good. Holding Notre Dame and FSU each under 20 points speaks to that.

They had a tough time with Clemson's passing attack but held them to 3.1 yards per carry.

Their defense is good, but we'll see better. Remember FSU and Clemson held running backs out against them. The TO blocking is not good right now and I blame the coach who has made the OL a hot mess for many years. Our guys have played against better in high school and seem to regress at Georgia Tech.

I agree the blocking is a work in progress. Small sample size, but at least the pass blocking seems to have went from atrocious to fair.

Pass protection has somewhat improved but I did notice a few things:

Defensive tackles can bull rush the middle

We are very slow blocking the outside

Even with the extra time you ca tell Thomaa isn't comfortable sitting back in the pocket (eg end zone pass)

There's a reason why coaches don't like to play big games the first week. There is a lot to fix, but we need to play a few more games to have any sense of this team, and we need to see some other defenses before we know if BC was just as good as they looked.

It is better, JT at least had a chance. I also noticed we didn't go through the TO gyrations in obvious passing downs so that he could get some depth before a defender was in his face.

Look who they played. Statistical rankings mean nothing when the opponents aren't equal.

Yeah, The SEC east was a dynamo last year. Our O was awful by UGa.

BC held ND, FSU, and UL down last year. They got rolled by Clemson, but so did Bama's D.

That's why FloridaJacket posted the FEI rankings, which take into account opponent strength, etc. BC's Front 7 really is that good. Their secondary isn't very good, which of course, the biggest plays on offense came against.

I do agree that the blocking has to get better. The pass blocking was much, much improved--no jailbreaks on JT and he had time to find receivers. I was disappointed at the perimeter blocking as we had one decent run to the outside all day.

Give GT BC's front 7 and we'd average 10 wins a year.

The fancy stats I cited, FEI and S&P, adjust to opponent quality. For a VERY rough apples-to-apples comparison, Clemson's yards per play against Alabama was 6.5 and against BC was 6.8.
