We still can't block anyone!

It's possible that BC might have a good defense.

One thing I did notice.. ..our blockers didn't look stoned or confused about who to block. They were usually just getting beat physically.

Getting outplayed but finding a way to win is actually a good result for the team. Should motivate us more in practice.
Are you saying Sewak is holding back on the Medicine this year?

GT scored more on BC per drive than any team they played last year except Clemson. Clemson just wore out BC defense.

IF this year's BC defense is as good as last years, then the game result is pretty good, and we actually probably have more to clean up on D.

But ww won't know how good BC is on O or D until about a month from now.

wow, reading all this it would appear we got killed. BC is pretty good,,they won't go winless in the conference (I can't believe they won't beat Wake and a few others). I think the baseline for us is 8 wins and maybe a good bit more. Lots of skill position talent (so long walk ons), a better defense, and JT will win some games himself.

This fall is going to be fun to watch..

Agree. And with that many white boys playing I can't believe they're an upper echelon D. Yeah, I know, RACIST!

I hate Mike Sewak. And last year, our defense only gave up 2 more points against FSU than BC did. We were solid, not great. I think we'll face higher quality defenses when we play Clemson, Georgia, VT, and possibly UNC. The blocking flat out sucks, it wasn't one defender tackling the ball carrier, it was two or three stuffing them. I don't know if it is missed assignments, poor technique, or schematic issues (i.e. too complicated or defenses have found a weakness). We almost lost this one and watching Devine leap at a defender as he is sacking JT indicates to me confusion. He was not physically beat and a guard should not have the assignment of taking the outside pass rusher.

Good. Then anything you say in your "evaluation" is crap because you completely discredited your ability to remain unbiased. You wasted the rest of your shit post.

So you think Sewak has been good? Go do some ridiculous IRS forms because your entire profession is built upon a crap tax code.

They're fast, physical, well-coached, and technically sound. They also had an entire offseason to prepare for Georgia Tech's offense. Will teams like Clemson and Miami potentially have better athletes? Yes. But, all other things considered, you can still make a decent argument BC's the best defense Tech will see all year.

You can also make a decent argument that it's the worst offense we'll face all year.

There's a reason BC was winless last year - they suck!

Aww....so sad....a CPA does a lot more than taxes you ignorant öööö.

Do you like infrustrcture? Otherwise go live in a place with no tax code. Your evaluations of anything will fit right in.

You are TheTaxJacket, reliant upon a bunch of lawyers to complicate the system. That infrastructure sucks and screws the average American. It has nothing to do with infrastructure, it has to do with the bullshit infrastructure that even requires you.

The United States economy would be just as healthy tomorrow, probably more healthy, if we wiped the tax code and made everyone file 1040EZ.

So now you are blaming our three year starter who won the Orange Bowl? The dive was blown up all day. Of course CPJ said good things about their defense when his offense sucked most of the game. What else would he do, admit that Sewak sucks?

I didn't really want to continue the argument, but it sounds like CPJ meant the OL's reads. So that goes to your criticism of Sewak, but I lean more to thinking CPJ screwed up by not keeping two full-time OL coaches.

The yards per play for FSU against BC and GT:

BC - 3.8 ypp
GT - 5.1 ypp

That's not really advanced Moneyball wizardry. It's just yards per play. GT's defense got lucky, for lack of a better term, for getting the interception in the 4th quarter and FSU having several false starts. Turnovers are generally luck and do not repeat themselves with the same teams. FSU didn't turn the ball over at all against BC and received two turnovers from BC, and they were still held to only 14 points.

Glass half full - they didn't have the Towelie QB last year. They COULD be much better.

Or not. Even after one game, it's hard to know how good your team is because you don't know how good your opponent was, outside of playing you.

Look who they played. Statistical rankings mean nothing when the opponents aren't equal.

2015 BC defense ranking in points per game vs.......

All Teams: 15.3 ppg (4th)
FBS Teams: 18.0 ppg (9th)
FBS Power 5 Teams: 18.4 ppg (11th)
FBS Teams with winning records: 19.6 ppg (4th)

So, looking at who they played I would call them a Top 10 Defense, in scoring defense. And, if I look at their offense:

All Teams: 17.2 ppg (121st out of 128)
FBS Teams: 10.6 ppg (127th)
FBS Power 5 Teams: 9.1 ppg (117th)
FBS Teams with winning records: 11.1 ppg (121st)

So, yeah, they had to stop people from scoring with a wretched, wretched offense.

Yes, his constant habit of running in reverse to avoid the rush just makes our pass pro worse
JT also lacks the ability to make tacklers miss when he's running down field. There was one play where he ran straight into the tackler's arms in the open field. It was like he didn't see him even though he was the only tackler within 10 yards.

We've got three possession receivers. Stewart and Searcy both looked much more physically developed than last year. Those two and Jeune caught the ball well on a wet field. That and the improvement in pass blocking are very encouraging. Searcy might have a big year. If you're the DB, he many be fixing to decleat you or run by you. By mid year, the passing game may be as good as it was two years ago. Third down conversion % should improve greatly from last year.

I think this was the best part of the game for me - we have 3 legitimate threats to catch the ball. All three caught the ball with their hands and seem to have been running good routes. Its hard to tell watching from the couch, but they looked good. We really just need multiple solid guys at the WR position to make us better. Great speed or ability is icing on the cake.
