What bothers me about this recruiting class

Recommend Wreckbone to him. See if it sticks.

I rather like Shaftbone too. Nice ring to it.

I've heard PJ say that if you had 75 plays in a game, you would probably want 50 run, 25 pass. I'll take that...

On WRs... Remember:
* We didn't graduate any WR this year
* We get Melton in from last year's class
* With the focus on getting in several athletic QBs, I imagine some of these guys may end up at WR (Roark with his size is a possibility).
That's not too different than what we did last year. We were about 45-30 run/pass.

The big question is whether our offense will be ready for much passing next year...and whether Josh Nesbitt will be ready for much passing. It all depends on our QB.

Truer words were never spoken!

ncjacket, you are obviously sold on the TO and I hope you are right. The concern that I and others have is what happens when we can't run. There will be a team that shuts down our run. There will also be a team leading in the fourth quarter by two scores. What then? Will we decide to pass? I posted earlier about wanting to see 70/30 run-pass. While I would not consider that a balanced offense, I think that is sufficiently balanced for the TO.
dodd_54, I'm sold on Paul Johnson. He knows what he can do out of his offense and I don't think he's dumb enough to keep trying something that doesn't work. He has passed more in the past (Hawaii) and will in the future if that's what gives him the best chance to win. He's about scoring point. PJ wants to win 52-20 instead of 17-14. He will do what it takes to score.

I agree. I think it'd be really interesting to come out and do nothing but throw during our entire first series next year. We can run the rest of the game, but that first series would confuse other coaches... and a bunch of us.

IIRC, that's what we did opening MNF against ND in '74. Marched down the field for a TD against the defending MN champions. We lost but it was a good start, brothers and sisters.

I have to admit I'm very impressed. I can't remember what our opening drive looked like 2 years ago.

I know I just opened a flood gate for people to remind me, but either way, I'm impressed.

Re: Apples to Oranges

The JohnsonBone (going for all the double entendres I can) uses the pitch as its short pass, while other offenses uses short passes as their short passes.

So you can't fairly compare the yards per catch (or attempt) between the two. A 5 yard swing pass on first down would make Bill Belichick happy, but hurt his average, while Paul Johnson would never have such a thing happen.

The Johnson!

Finally, a coach that doesn't let up on the gas! I never grow tired of seeing us score touchdowns. The more we score, the quicker we can get younger guys in the game (assuming the other team isn't keeping pace with us). We didn't have enough opportunities for this over the past few years...
