What Happened to THE BEST TRIPLE OPTION QB EVER? (Justin Thomas)

Our best option QB as far as proficiency was Tevin Washington. He just didn’t have the athletic ability of JT or JN

100%. Should've mentioned him. He was probably the most efficient TO QB GT ever had. I'd rank him behind Nesbitt and maybe a hair or 2 above JT.

If PJ is putting together his all star team at GT then I guarantee you he's choosing JT over anyone else.
If I'm going for a pure smash mouth TO, we are going to run and only run, then I'm taking Nesbitt. But JT could pass decently and didn't have quite the same support cast Nesbitt did to help alleviate issues, yet still did insanely well. I'd be happy to have either on my team.

If we're honest with ourselves, he should have been playing defense like Saban wanted him too. He was never going to be an NFL QB and needed time to practice at other positions.

But it was his choice, and we benefited from it. Not everything is about the NFL.

I’m not sure the NFL was ever in his future.

Nesbitt had much better skill players and a much worse OL. It is hard to compare them because of the surrounding cast.

Very, very hard to say. Tim Byerly was an excellent goal line man for JT5 if y’all recall.

I’m not sure if “worse Oline” is actually merited here. When you have a right guard like Shaw Mason you can just run to the right.

I propose if we could combine teams, that Tech is starting at a Natty and I’m not kidding.

The way Raymond Gross carried the ball was more heart-attack inducing for me than Tracy's was. The way he waved the ball around was like he was conducting an orchestra.
As we get off on a tangent, nobody was better at making a pitch downfield than Raymond.
Raymond is actually a very good friend of mine. One of the first people to call me after my dad died many years ago.

Really? That's awesome. I never got to meet him. Seems like a great guy though. He was indeed an excellent pitch man. In fact I think that was probably the last of the pitches that happened 10, 15 or more yards down the field. Great fun to watch.

I've often wondered if PJ perhaps would've fared better if he stuck with the TO that he ran in those days. Seems like he had more plays and more athletic QBs.

JT or JN? Great question, because it prompts so many great memories. JT was the playmaker; the defense had to respect his speed afoot, but he could also throw a pass where Smelts or Walker could grab it on a third and long. JN was tough as nails. If we had a 3rd and 5 in a big situation, you knew, just knew he’d find a way to get that yardage. Gotta love ‘em both, friends.

Crazy to think but both QBs (JN & JT) won over 20 games in their time on the flats.

Personally, I feel that Nesbitt was better than JT. They had different styles of playing so it basically depends on which flavor you like. I don't consider either one to be the best TO QB of all time though. I've seen a lot of TO QBs so it would be hard for me to say. The guy at Navy was amazing (forgot his name), Tracy Ham,Greg Hill, Tommy Frazier, some others come to mind. Jared Bernhardt, although he only played 1 year. Probably most famous for his Lacrosse days at Maryland. As far as GT goes, Nesbitt is it for me. I loved watching him play.
Agree. Nesbitt was a beast. He reminded me quite a bit of Tim Tebow. If there was ever a situation where we had to have 2-3 yards for a first down he would lower his shoulders, drive those legs and by gosh just get it done himself, blocking or no blocking.

So what is Nesbitt doing these days?

Last thing I saw was that he was a QB coach at a school in Conyers

Here's an interesting article with him from 2020. According to his Twitter he runs Nesbitt Sports Academy, and his LinkedIn says he is currently (depending on whether that's updated or not) a Sales Rep for Georgia Lottery and does volunteer coaching in Greensboro.

Maybe his kid Joshua Nesbitt Jr. can rescue this program. He might only be a few years old but I'd still sign him.

Not to downplay Thomas but i feel Nesbitt was the best recently. That guy felt no pain and trucked more defenders than he ever should have had to. Not to mention what he wasn't even recruited for the 3-0.
4th and short was nearly automatic for Nesbitt
