What I am worried about

Uhhhhh..... okay..... let me try..... I should not define Tech football by anything other than what Tech IS. Hmmmm. I guess it doesn't matter if we beat Miami on Thursday because that would be defining success based on Miami, which is what Tech IS NOT. Okay then...... But I can still be happy about the Clemson and FSU wins, right? OOPS! There I go again! Defining Tech football based on what is NOT Tech. Okay, let me try again. What matters IS Tech and only Tech, so I shouldn't worry about non-Tech games. Well, wait a minute, but don't I want VT and UVA and UNC to all lose one more game? GASP! A NEGATIVE! Something that's NOT TECH that I care about and might use to define Tech success! Geez, I guess I'll have to stop watching games and start watching practice, in which everything IS Tech and nothing is NOT Tech.

Admit it; what you're saying makes little sense. No team cannot succeed without some OTHER team to beat. UGA is the team with which we have the most heated rivalry. Therefore, success IS in large part defined by beating them. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's one of the greatest things about being a sports fan. Furthermore, the concept of rooting only FOR one team but AGAINST no other team is silly.

Typical arrogant crap. Kids like you are so clueless. (At least I hope and pray for your sake that you are just a kid.) Someone disagrees with you and you suggest they cannot read and need to "go learn something." Of course, this makes sense given your claim earlier on this thread that you are "better" than any UGA grad and that it is "obvious" and "truthful on its face," which is just silly and makes you look like a fool. As if no smart or worthy person ever went to UGA. As if no bad people ever went to Tech. Seems to me that you're the one obsessed with hating UGA and feeling superior. All I want to do is beat their asses in football but you'd never catch me contending that I am "better" than all UGA grads, because that's just pompous and stupid. People like you are why our fan base is often perceived as a bunch of elitists. Maybe you should work on your positivity rather than deluding yourself with this stupid idea that you are automatically a better person than anyone who went to UGA. And tell me, Mr. Positive, why would you define yourself based on being better than some group of people?

Yeah, I'll save you the trouble. I'm just a dumb flamer and I can't read or think or understand what you say. I probably even made a grammar mistake or misspelled something. Yeah, good points.....;)

ok, you are hopeless. and if you dont know what it means to define something negatively (namely by what it is not) then you DO need to go learn something.

maybe you can see a difference between looking at ALL games (and the resulting wins that you mention) and stating all other games except the UGA game dont matter. that what was said, and that would indeed define GT football based on the outcome to UGA despite all the other games

also, your claims as my arrogance are ridiculous. my point about GT v UGA was that if you need a football win to prove the value of the education you got, there is something wrong

go ahead and blow your own steam, you are not a deep thinker, that is clear

and no, i am not a kid. i have two degrees from Tech, both of which require deep and logical thought.... eat your heart out, simpleton!

The simple fact of the matter is that in our current system, a successful season goes through uga nine times out of ten.

A national championship will NEVER be won by Tech with a loss to uga. Period. Unless the ACC mans up in a major way, or we go to a playoff, it just won't happen. We don't get the benefit of the doubt that the SEC and the Big 12 this year get. Not to mention the fact that it's so late in the year, you don't have time to potentially make it up.

I agree that Allen Koholic's sentiments regarding the game are on the extreme end of the spectrum, but that game is still huge. Rivalry games matter in college football. Don't try to fool yourself otherwise. Coaches are fired over them. Programs are defined somewhat by them (not nearly as much as championships, but they are definitely important). To me, an ACC Championship season that includes a loss to uga is hollow. I'm excited that we won the league, but the disappointment from the loss will taint the season. You may not feel the same, but a majority of the fan base will most likely agree with me. The same can be said about any program in the NATION with a major rival. Ohio State-Michigan, USC-ND, Alabama-Auburn, anyone.

Completely agree here.

Now let's say the last seven years we had beat UGA, but never won the ACC. Then maybe a close loss to UGA, while I would be very upset, it would be really awesome to go to a BCS bowl. A BCS bowl to me, in our current situation of beating UGA once a generation, would be very hollow with a loss to UGA. They have just beat us too many times for it not to be important.

Think how the ACC would get boosted if the big ACC-SEC matchups on rivalry weekend goes in our favor.

i wouldnt say an ACC Championship year would be tainted by a loss, i would say diminished

then, i would be happy that the Jackets are playing in a BCS bowl with the chance to redeem themselves on the national stage

say we beat UGA and then lose to Fresno St in the Silicon Valley Bowl, how does that make you feel?

HELL YES BEAT THE CRAP oUT OF UGA! THWG!! and all of that... but...all i am saying is that there is more to Tech football the the one game against the one team

The uga win would be enough for me to overcome the loss to Fresno St. for that year.

I would love to compete nationally. However, I also believe that to really be national competitors, we need to beat uga. Virtually any major success we have will go through uga, and losing to them makes an otherwise successful season seem less so. That's just what a rivalry is. There's just something extra to that game. If you don't feel it as much as others, I can't convince you otherwise through any length of words. It's just something that you either arrive at or you don't.

I accept the fact that others have a different stance on the game. So long as it doesn't affect the game itself (i.e. moving the game, or *God Forbid* suspending/cancelling the series), then people are free to view it as they will. As it stands now, the vast majority of the Tech fanbase puts a VERY high value on that game. Partially because of our recent failures, partially because that's how some people were brought up.
