What is it about Whisenhunt?

Why Not Ken?

  • Poor Record as a HC

  • Minimal College Experience

  • Chan Flashbacks

  • Moving From CA So Probably Liberal

  • Runs Pro-Style Offense

  • Too Old-School

  • Not Vad Lee

No Vad Lee. I suppose my only "problems" with KW which are more just concerns than anything: No meaningful, current college experience and the unknown as to what his setup/philosophy would be. Would he run a pro-style O or hire good coordinators to do their thing and be a CEO-type?

Its just the unknowns and that, with KW, the answer is "it depends". Hard to get excited about that.

Edited to say that the current "appearance" that he's the only person that's been considered also has me with a "meh" attitude.

Despite spending my last 25 years watching HS, college, and pro ball I have learned the following in this thread;

1.) Phillip Rivers was/is a bad QB. Only the whiz could fix this noob.

2.) Kurt Warner was a bad QB, only whiz could fix him.

Wow. Two hall of fame quarterbacks were just utter shit without the whiz, you should be very flexible, as much as you make stretch.

Wow. Two hall of fame quarterbacks were just utter öööö without the whiz, you should be very flexible, as much as you make stretch.

Who said Warner was a bad QB? He had a great run with the Rams, then a terrible 5-year period, then a revival under Whisenhunt. Any objective analysis of Warner's career from 2002-2006 would conclude he was not good during that period. If you want to chalk it up to coincidence that his return to a Pro Bowl level occurred when Whisenhunt took over, so be it.

I saw one, maybe two posters claim that Rivers wasn't good. He's always been pretty good, but the fact remains that he won Comeback Player of the Year with Whisenhunt as OC, and has enjoyed three of his best seasons in the league in the three years that Whisenhunt has been his coordinator.

This is all academic since Whisenhunt isn't going to be our coach, but if you want to marginalize the NFL achievements of a former Tech player, that's your prerogative.
