what is your opinion?

My dad went there, I go to utk, but I still support GT like no other, DIE HARD

I am probably one of the few exceptions to this rule. I grew up a lifelong Tech fan and graduated from Tech. I love the teams and hate the school.
I know where you are coming from. I too am a life-long Tech fan (season tickets with my dad since I was in middle school) who went to the school, and I don't have the same passion towards the school that I do for the teams. I wouldn't say I hate the school, but I am ambivalent towards it to a degree. I really thought about transferring to a smaller local school during my first year--maybe I was just being a homebody, but I didn't enjoy being there. However, I seemed to enjoy it more when I got into my major (textile chem) --didn't like my major (ended up going to med school), but I liked the people in my major. I am somewhat proud that I made it through there, but I don't gloat about going there around non-Tech folks (even UGA folks).

There is no way I want my kids attending Tech for the reasons pointed out on this board. Most of us (amd I did say us) are prideful, cocky and arrogant. I would prefer that my kids matriculate in a more well rounded environment that still produces fine graduates.
If my kids want to go to Tech, fine, but I am not going to push them there, particularly if they want to do something that Tech doesn't offer.

That said, if my kids want to go to uga (sorry, I can not capitalize their initials) they had better get a freaking job because my money will NOT be spent in athens.
AMEN!

Die hard Tech man since birth. Attended West GA for scholarship (would have gladly accepted GT ship if offered). Still die hard Tech fan and would pull for GT if they were to ever play UWG in the future. I bleed Gold (old Gold, not Vegas gold by the way).

Even if some of the (older) alumni at the stadium do not cheer (every play, 3rd down, etc.), they are still the ones cutting the vast majority of the checks to the school and the AA.

So the support is there. Just because they did not start drinking at 8 am like you did does not make them less of a fan. Both types are needed.

I usually don't start drinking until 8:30 am.

If my son or daughter ever wanted to attend UGA, then I wouldn't have a song or daughter.

That's disturbing. Does everyone not realize that UGA is probably tougher now to get into than Tech is. Especially in State.

That's about the most absurd comment I've ever heard. You're an idiot

And you may be another freakin' moron. UGA is an excellent University. As much as I hate to admit it.

A true Tech man bust be a graduate of the Institute. (Sorry, Bobby Dodd, you're out!)

A true Tech man must represent the Institute with class and dignity at all times. (Sorry, Joe Hamilton, you're out!)

A true Tech man must cheer at the appropriate times and at an appropriate volume, and must know what is appropriate without asking. (Sorry.... err... me.)

A true Tech man must wear the proper color and must support the wearing of football uniforms that are the proper color and must know without asking what the proper color is. (Sorry at least 75% of fans, you're out!)

A true Tech fan must never drink Pepsi.

A true Tech fan must drink whiskey before games but must never act like he has. (You know who you are.)

A true Tech fan must have mixed feelings about Bill Curry. (Sorry, Bill Curry, you're out!)

etc.

#1 is the most ridiculous thing that I've ever heard of. I didn't go to Tech (although I was accepted), and I'd bet my damn paycheck that I'm more of a True Tech Fan than you are.

It's idiots like you that makes other people who aren't fans give us a bad name.

Freakin' dumbsh#$

Yes, #1 is in fact so ridiculous that one could have concluded that it was a JOKE! In fact, an attentive reader MIGHT even come to the conclusion that the entire post is tongue in cheek and that I was in fact making the point that nongraduates can be some of the best people associated with the Institute, such as Bobby Dodd for whom the football stadium is named and while we're at it, Bobby Cremins for whom the basketball court is named.

I suppose you also thought I was checking people off a list for drinking Pepsi!

I guess it's actually necessary for me to do this:

TIC!!!!!1111 :) ;);):laugher::lol2::lol2:

Actually I believe it's idiots like you who give non-alumni fans(or Tech fans in general[or the human race in general...]) a bad name*.

If we're going to be successful, we have to appeal to fans who love college football, and don't have an Alma Mater who plays D1A football, or at least one in the area.

I don't get you ya jerkoff. Besides the fact you're some punk kid who thinks he knows what he's talking about. Like I said before, although my opinions are strong one way or the other there is for the most part a point to them and actually relate to the conversation. You however just piggy back someone elses comments and posts and usually don't bring an original thought to the table. Besides this post, please show me where I've posted a comment that gives a bad name to the human race. Like it or not there's usually a reason to my rant and facts to support it. You're just a little bitch who's probably never played a down or made a freethrow. Instead you just post something for the hell of it. You're the guy who gets the rest of us laughed at as Tech Fans because your only claim to fame is reaching a new level in your video game. you lil piss ant, its dorks like you that make me wanna switch sides for a minute, line up and run a "Bull in the Ring" or Oklahoma drill on.

As for the other guy, my apologies I didn't realize or pick up on the sarcasm. In hindsight its my bad for the response and my hats off b/c that was original and quite funny now unlike GTH816's queer @$$ posts and lifestyle in general

A fan becomes a fan of a college football team for many reasons. Obviously, being an Alum is probably the biggest reason ..... but what about during your pre-collegiate days???

Some become fans due to academics, some due to location, some due to other relationships (parents are Alums, friends or family attend/attended) associated with the institution, etc. etc.

I reside in Central GA and grew up as a Tech fan. As old as I am ..... if you were from GA and was a college football fan ..... you either pulled for the Ga or GaTech. My decision was easy.

I played football and coached at GaSouthern. I now have even more reason to be a Tech fan .... my relationship with PJ, Mike Sewak, and Giff Smith from the GASouthern days.

Of course, Tech picked up a lot of South GA fans when Johnson and Staff became the HC. Does this mean I am not a GaSouthern fan? Of course not!!! I will pull for GaTech in all games, unless the Jackets play my GaSouthern Eagles ..... then of course I've got to pull for my Eagles.

Now I bring up another question ..... Is it acceptable to be a fan of multiple college teams??? It would be difficult to be a true fan if the 2 teams were in the same conference, but I am talking about different conferences and/or different divisions. Do you follow Ga HS Football and have fans at the A, AA, AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA levels?

To answer your question, yes. In my case: Tech, Southern, Texas A&M and the ACC.

And I am a fan of Tech, Missouri, Guilford College, LaGrange College and Mercer (all schools I attended at one time or another).

agree with this completely. my uncle was a walk on in the mid 80s and so i was raised a jacket. i had the gpa and sat scores to attend tech if i wanted to, but i didn't want to be an engineer so i chose a different route. i hate uga and love ga tech just as much as an alumni though i promise.

my girlfriend is on their basketball team. i've spent many weekends down there.

58 Posts into this thread and I still don't get it.

The very idea that the single question: What is your opinion about fans who didn't go to GT can generate 58 posts is... well... not encouraging.

First of all, let's start with the embedded premise: What is "your"...

Who is "your?"

You can learn a lot from a pronoun and what I learn from this one is that the person posing the question thinks of him/herself as on outsider.

So let me just cut to the chase. If you support the team then you are a Tech fan. Going to Tech does NOT make one a Tech fan. Not going to Tech does not prevent one from being a Tech fan.

The ONLY measure of a Tech fan is how much you hurt when we lose and how good you feel when we win.

Everything else is bull$•••.

The reason I did ask was because a lot of Tech fans on this board use "I bet they didn't go to [insert college name here(but mainly UGA)]" when talking about other fans. As a non alum statements like these don't really feel welcoming and I'm sure could turn other potential fans away since we didn't attend Tech and aren't good enough.
