What kind of timeframe are we looking at?

you want nattys? Compare this to Clemson.

Building talent but not a winning culture
Then picking off some big wins (UGA for example)
Then the playoffs
Then the nattys

Clemson under Dabo took about 4 years to get over Clemsoning, but each year the team made progress. It was a long, uphill battle. Are we asking for too much in year 2 or seeing too many issues that don’t create winners? Time will tell. I don’t know any way someone can justifiably say this team moved forward since last year. New talent was injected and the penalties multiplied. The kicking game is a fireable offense after week 3. This team made no ground since last year. More pass yards and nothing to show for it except turnovers. In many respects it is moving backwards. For a ‘developmental program’ that is a damning rebuke.

Either CGC needs to carve out a future that is based on results instead of dumbass hype moments like blue carpet intros, practice DJs, and hyperbole, or he needs to dump major parts of his supporting cast for winners that can get the job done no matter the ‘culture’. If he doesn’t I am fully ready to consider him a regrettable 6-year meme. The latter option here is the Dabo method. I have no confidence in Patenaude based on his inability to read what Syracuse was giving him. Their defense played into our strengths but he continued to make terrible calls.

We barely beat Clemson in Dabo's first year. The second year, they went to the ACC Champ game and lost to us. I would kill for this. Do you really think there is a good comparison with Dabo and Collins and Clemson and Georgia Tech?

I've always said that the first 2 seasons for Collins were all about transition. It wasn't a normal transition in 100s of ways. I wasn't going to judge them like normal because they aren't.

So I'll start judging in more detail next season. I think coaches need 3 to 4 years anyway so Collins needs to have a good season by his 5th. Also, needs to stop having the Citadel/Syracuse type games.

I can't believe that so many Tech fans have already decided to give up on even trying to be different (different than Johnson and even different than Gailey of keep the games close and strive for average). I'm worried that Tech is closer to being "Duke" than anywhere close to a top 25 program like VT or UNC or even an average SEC school. I want to see what Collins can do. I want to see if the ceiling is top 25 or if we are what we seem: Duke in a major city.

Lastly, unless you really expected/wanted GT to run the option forever, then you should support Collins' recruiting/branding efforts. Let him do all the hard work and put a normal college roster together. If he doesn't work out, then the next coach will have a much easier time.

Yes! Fortunately for Clemson they had a better starting point but IIRC Dabo got Tahj Boyd in his first class and built a team around him.

There is no comparison to be made. Clempsen is a kindergarten scholastically, with no entrance requirements, no curriculum requirements, a huge budget for assistants relative to ours, and legendary facilities.

Are you suggesting Sims is our cornerstone player ala Tahj Boyd? Gibbs and Griffin are our C.J. Spiller?

And yet, with all that is going on in this country, athletes appear fine with this.
