When you don’t block

A pass for what exactly? Losing a hard fought game on the road to a so called Top 20 team? Where exactly do some of you get that GT is a Top 3-4 ACC team? Because in your head they should be? GT was the preseason ACC #9 team. GT is still rebuilding. This recruiting class is HUGE for GT to take the next step with weaker schedules in 2025-2026.

As far as Louisville goes, Louisville plays ND next week. A win against ND more than likely means Louisville will be 6-0 when they play Miami.
Sorry. More like a snafu fest where the more determined team won. I recognize Key is building. I also know that everything he is trying to build can be gone at every position by NIL. He and you should also.

Fair enough. In the FA known as NIL, you’re 100% right. I just watched Eddie Kelly make a sack for Mizzou in 2 OT against Vandy.

I’m not sure that they are weak, after the last few games I question their wanting to block someone and just be physical like they were on opening day.
You mean the physical style of football that Key eludes to in his interviews. Maybe he could but it doesn’t seem he can inspire those guys to give that.

FSU played us straight up, believing they could handle us with their DL. We blocked them beautifully. Now teams have scouted us and realized with more numbers in the box they can stop the run. We are not taking advantage of passing the ball downfield, which is what they are daring us to do.
Is this a stubborn pride issue with Key?

They seem to have an edge to them last year and even against FSU, but I haven’t seen it since.
Wholeheartedly agree, of course you're an expert. Helps you win games & ever since Johnson was head coach I'm much more aware of what our lines are doing. Football really is a beautiful thing when you got a bunch of nasty guys up front looking for defenders to punish every play. Never forget that mutt game when some of their D were literally running from our OL, WRs and RBs trying to avoid contact instead of trying to tackle whoever had the ball for us.

I don't think so. Just my opinion, tho. Even in obvious passing situations, HK had very little time to get the ball out.

Our OL is not as good as I thought after F$U. Again, my opinion.

Honestly this is where I’m puzzled through 5 games. The way the GT OL finished the 2nd half of the season + bowl I really believed that the O could carry GT to wins by grinding out the clock. The FSU game was fools gold, because there were indications of running game issues against Georgia State.

Hopefully the “bye” week allows the GT staff and OL group time to reset and fix the blocking scheme.

I’m not one for excuses, but I still think it’s ridiculous that GT has played 5 straight weeks, while other teams have had byes after 2-3 games. The bye before and after Miami in November to me is just stupid scheduling by GT.

There are many things that go into “scheduling” not just our choice of how to make a schedule. There are also many things that go into building a program outside of your coaching staff, players and fans. Week 0 worked remarkably well for GT.

There are reasons Brent was available as HC and more available for us. IE nobody else wanted to take the chance on him, we couldn’t afford better except a few and or our big donors fluffed the coaching search even though it should have been up to the AD.

Soft Oline play point you made after last year. I don’t have the answer. Unfortunately, until you can cut players in season and bring another one in or trade them I don’t see an answer. Outside of a headcase of a qb, FSU is a good athletic football roster that is paid decently well. Maybe having 115 helps but it means other teams can buy more guys not to play for us.

I don’t believe the current trend is good for college football. I don’t believe it is good for GT.

Good post. The FA nonsense is unsustainable long term and something like a hard cap will need to be put in place from a school to player payout. That whole legal battle vs the NCAA needs to be resolved sooner rather than later. Unfortunately this will require both representation from the players in addition to the conferences/schools to come to a final agreement. I know the shared payouts are across all sports which is another hurdle.

What NIL deals players get on their own can’t be regulated.

Personally if the route of $$$ is what the players want, then the schools should be able to write performance based contracts. That would really level set a lot of this. Guarantee you the players wouldn’t want to give back $$$ or be relegated to the Portal for not delivering on what they agreed to.

ACC controls scheduling for most part with some to little input from the schools

I get it. But GT bends the knee more than anyone else it seems. Take the schedule in general. They lost a home game to FSU (Ireland) and ND (MBS). Heck, FSU hasn’t even technically played a “road game” yet and has had a “bye” already. So you’re telling me GT couldn’t have had a “bye” after VMI? Come on.

So GT is to blame as well.

we bend over a lot. not sure how the knee thing fits into it though, maybe ankle grabbing with knees locked?

Hold on USC, I didn’t say I disagreed. I actually agree with what you say. The MBS was done by previous admin, plus I think we could ask for more when it comes to scheduling.

My point simply was that ACC league office controls a great deal of scheduling. Schools can ask for variances in scheduling. I have no idea if GT does or not, but it should especially in odd years like this one

I know. I wasn’t disagreeing with you either. Just throwing out my 2 cents. Just wish GT would actually put their foot down for a change.
