Who do we push for the Heisman next year

Hey, it's all in the marketing (and good luck) and it might just start at the ChickFA Bowl. So who do we push for the Heisman next year: Dwyer, Nesbitt, Burnett?

I'm watching the Bears game and dang if Burnett doesn't look like Hester or Ed Reed of Baltimore. Why not turn him loose a little next year and return some punts, etc.?

But of course it's very hard for a S to win the Heisman and hey, how can you not push JD? RB's win the Heisman, not safeties.

But the offense really goes around Josh so why not him?

JN doesn't have a chance. He doesn't pass enough.

If Nesbitt deserves the Heisman in his time at Tech, he will never get it due to the stats. The Heisman is a stats award, and an option QB has crap stats.

I love some of the obscure stats that you sometimes see while watching a game on tv. one stat I've wanted to see since the beginning of the season is a stat that gives credit to JN for making the correct read and executing the pitch. call it "pitch yards." I'd like to see JN's numbers reported something like this: pass yards, rush yards, pitch yards. I mean, its basically the same as giving Grahm Harrell (sp?) credit for throwing a screen pass that goes for 30 yards.

I have said before that there need to be official stats for an option quarterback. There should be pass yards, rush yards, and assisted rush yards.

The simple fact of the matter is that based on historical trends, and our team, Dwyer has the best, and likely only chance at a Heisman next year. As someone said earlier, QB's and RB's have a leg up on the award year in and year out. Plus, you need some gaudy stats to get the attention of the voters.

Dwyer, and I'd say with the press he's gotten in the last two games, he has the media's attention already. That said, he'll never win, as there's anyone on our team that can bust out 150 yards in a game, and if the defense decides to take away the dive, we're going to the outside.

If Paul Johnson gets all of his offense implemented, and Josh puts up Tim Tebow-ish numbers -mostly total TDs - and we're in the national title hunt in the next two seasons, I can see Nesbitt getting some consideration.

Great points made in this thread. I think it has to be Dwyer, I see that as the only chance.

Another nationally televised Thursday night game in November would help, where Dwyer (or Nesbitt if we throw it more) has a Flutie performance to really stick in the voters' minds.

Have we ever had a player in serious Heisman contention other than Castleberry and Hamilton?

i have brought this up before, but when the pitch is slightly forward (as it is usually on the corner) then it should really be counted as a forward pass and not a pitch.

count in those yards, and then there you go, Nesbitt has the yards.

i think that even if the pitch is forward but behind the line of scrimmage in Pro football it is considered a run, is it the same in college or is it a pass?

Dwyer.

You need preseason hype due to the production of a previous season to drive a Heisman campaign. Dwyer.

If we get the passing game installed, then Nesbitt's the following year.

Excellent idea on the "pitch yards" or whatever you want to call it. Send a letter to PJ; it would be interesting conversation for the next telecast.

Regarding generating national attention, the reason I think Josh might be the guy is because he has an extra year to be noticed. If we can improve by one or two victories or more next year, then we'll be Top Ten again and people will know Josh. I'm just not sure if enough know us for next year and JD.

Regarding shutting down JD up the middle, JD has the unusual ability to also go outside and PJ uses that all the time. Additionally, next year JD might just line up as the B Back many times.

I agree with everything being said here but I have to add that Morgan Burnett is as fine a DB that I have ever seen. If we have enough bodies next year, then maybe he could do punt returns and WR and show some flash. If Tech was pushing someone like him, the tv crews would point him out. Unlike JD, who might get lost in a crazy talented backfield next year, MB is easily seen.

I agree here, but PJ has already shown the ability to get Dwyer on the outside when the dive isn't there.

How do you guys feel about Roddy Jones being a canidate? While he may not get the carries Dwyer would get if he puts up good numbers in receiving AND rushing then maybe be gets consideration, but that depends on how our offense evolves and the amount of touches he gets. but hes explosive and could have those hybrid numbers a la percy harvin but more rushing of course

If Dwyer averages 2286 yards a season like Adrian Peterson his next two years then he will win it one of the next two.

(AP= 9145 over 4 seasons including playoffs)

I think Roddy is a fine football player but is a year behind JD and JN and will not get the limelight for a bit.
