Things are changing fast, and it is possible that in two years we will be left out in the cold.

But it's crazy to say that college football is officially dead when: 1) we played the unbeaten two time defending national champs to within one score; 2) Tech fans are the most excited they've been going into a season in a good six or seven years; and 3) there's a defined path to the playoff for the ACC champs for the first time ever.

Maybe college football is dying and in two years it really will be dead to us. But it's not dead now.
The two years thing is because this playoff format is only for 2 years. We won't know til later whether your #3 will hold true at all beyond that and if they do get rid of automatic bids for conference champs then this past seasons' events are fairly discouraging.

You do understand that all teams in the CFP this year will be SEC/B1G next year? Power is officially consolidated. Haves and have nots. Pac12 is gone. College football is dead. Have no idea why anyone here watches non-GT games. Do you like watching teams that actually have a chance while yours doesn't?
And you realize that there is a 12 team CFP next year, right?

The B12 & P12 got the revenue from Texas and Washington, not the sec for this year. Both schools won those 2 conferences, not the B1G or sec.

So next year the ACC, B12 and at-large would have each had a team in the CFP. And whose fault is that again? It’s not the B1G or sec’s fault at this point that the ACC, B12 suck as conferences.

Other. It's just not the same without him :ughcry:

That's like saying the winner of the Patriot League or MEAC has a chance during March Madness. Cute. It is the SEC/B1G's fault. They have created this divide between themselves and everyone else. And the NCAA has been complicit by acting like there are student athletes at these factories. It's professional football, just a crappier version. College football is dead.

Anyone voting for ESPN is simply missing what has happened. ESPN has not given out $7-13 million contracts to HC’s, created a facilities arms race, etc. All ESPN, CBS, Fox and NBC have done is provide financial media agreements with conferences.

The corrupt NCAA is 100% to blame.

If you have a problem with capitalism then you can watch DII, DIII, and NAIA.
The NCAA isn’t giving our contracts or creating a facilities arms race either. They are an organization without power or influence, and will soon be very much separated from major college football.

The NFL realized at some point that the value of the league was maximized by increasing parity (outliers excepted).

The people who control college football are too stupid to figure that out. Classic case of killing the golden goose with short-sighted greed.

The NCAA botched the paying of players so badly they essentially fastened their own noose.

Remember the “stipends”? lol. It was something like $500/month for the players…

What a bunch of cheap pricks. Now they’re essentially a ragtag bunch of eunuchs.

I don’t think it is screwed up. I prefer to live in a Capitalist society. If you think it is screwed up, stop investing your time and money.
You probably felt like such a badass when you typed this out. Such a weird thing to say in this context.

So you’re also admitting that it’s the ACC’s fault expansion started rolling in the 1st place by raiding and destroying the Big East? How’s that worked out on the football field?

The current state of the ACC is no one else’s fault to blame except for the ACC.

You mean are soon to be without power and separated from major college football? As of right now, that clueless bunch of idiots still tries to “investigate“ programs and levy sanctions. Sure didn’t hurt Tennessee too much for all the crap PruiTT did. Still nothing final at Arizona State for Herm Edwards.

Ed O'Bannon
So you’re saying EA Sports started the domino effect when they started releasing Bill Wash’s College Football in 1993 along with 2 NCAA basketball games by other developers for PC and Super Nintendo?

The people who control college football are too stupid to figure that out. Classic case of killing the golden goose with short-sighted greed.

As you know, the draft and salary cap create the conditions for a level playing field. Not sure how a mechanism(s) could be implemented to help college football have more parity.

Then again, would the college football powers go along with things that would add parity? Seems that they are happy with the way things are and getting the bulk of the money.

Rozelle had a masterstroke getting the NFL owners to understand that a parity driven league makes everyone richer as it increases interest. Each team can turn things around quickly.

A good 80-90% of college football has next to no chance at a playoff shot.

So you think DII, DIII, and NAIA aren't capitalist?

Also anyone not voting ESPN is simply missing how much ESPN slanted the playing field.

That is exactly the problem. You hit the actual number right on the head, too.

NFL
There are 32 NFL teams. Since 1999, 22 of them played in at least one superbowl.

So 70% of the NFL has at least played in the Superbowl since 1999. Those 22 teams are from 19 different states all over the country.

FBS
There are 133 teams in the FBS. That's 4 NFLs. Since 2000, however, only 18 different teams have finished in the top 2 final AP poll. That's 3 fewer teams than the NFL at 1/4 the size.

So only 14% of the FBS has finished in the top 2. Making matters worse, if you take the AP #1 and #2 teams since 2000 and assign each to a region of the country (S = South; M = Midwest; T = Texas; W = West), here are the total appearances in the top 2 by region:
S - 26
M- 4
T - 4
W - 4

So 86% of the FBS "locked out" of the chance for a trophy. 70% of the top two teams are from 5 Southern States and the other 30% are from 9 other states. So 70% of the 50 states have no representation in the top 2 over the last 23 years.

That pretty much sums it up.

So you think DII, DIII, and NAIA aren't capitalist?

Also anyone not voting ESPN is simply missing how much ESPN slanted the playing field.
So ESPN who PAYS the ACC deal has “slanted the playing field” you say? I guess ESPN also destroyed the P12 and inflated the B1G who they will no longer broadcast? Just like ESPN has “slanted the basketball court” over the last 30 years towards the ACC, right? All notions are bad takes with no absolutely no proof.

Results on the field, attendance in the stands with great environments are all any network cares about.

That is exactly the problem. You hit the actual number right on the head, too.

It isn’t a problem for those at the top raking in donations and swimming in NIL $. The question becomes whether viewership goes down or has simply reached its peak and college football becomes just a regional sport with nearly half of the country tuning it out.

I’m not sure how you would achieve any sort of parity in college football nor do I think that those few schools at the top would go along with it.

Thanks for putting those #s together for the respective leagues and teams having a shot.
