Who then??

We will never settle for mediocrity for fear of the unknown! Wait that’s not right. We have been comfortable with mediocrity for a long time, longer than Chan has been here.

It will be difficult to find someone good enough to turn around our program and loyal enough to stay afterwards. Anyone remember the last coach to stay after a great season?

I completely agree. The rest of the nation see GT as a mediocre school and team in terms of football. If a coach comes in here and wins game and does great thing then everyone assumes he must be really great to "turn around" such a mediocre team. Then the Factories will just poach our coach by offering sums of money that we will be unable to match.

Larry Coker is an intriguing name. He's a stand up guy who cleaned up a lot of the "trash" in Miami, and only won about 80% of his games...

I think his winning percentage waned with each successive year. Here are the number of losses while a head coach:

0,1,2,3,3,6

Looks like Coker won most of his games with what was in the cupboard when he took over.

I don't know about him.

Why this obsession with someone who will stay forever? Just where does that happen anymore? If we change coaches my vote is for the best coach DRad can find. My preference would be for a current HC who can bring his own staff, whether he's at a D-1, non BCS team or a lower level school. But I'd much rather have the problem of trying to keep someone who's successful, than not having any worries about our coach leaving but not being satisfied with the program.

ncjacket,

Obsession is a perfume for ladies. I wanted Chan out after his first season and he hasn't done much in his tenure to make me change my mind. But, anyone who thinks replacing him with a better coach will be easy is in for a big surprise.

For the first time though, it just might make economic sense to try...

There are tons of coaches out there who can win games. Just turn on the TV any Saturday or read your paper. I'm not saying Chan can't coach, but this thing we have about "not getting someone better" is stupid. There are many guys looking for their shot in the big time, or looking for that next big check by moving to a "higher profile" school, etc. The only way we won't have a good coach if we make a change is if we make a bad decision, not because of lack of interest or no one better than Chan being available. Hell, there are lots of guys who win more games who probably aren't as good of a coach as Chan. Sometimes it's as much about attitude as knowledge.

Spurrier would make the jump for the right cash don't you doubt it.

You're in la-la-land if you think Spurrier's coming to Tech. Did you happen to notice where Spurrier sh*t all over the Dean of Admissions for not letting someone come to play at SC who met the NCAA minimum but couldn't get into the school? Did you miss that SC finally has their first coach in their history who wins games? Did you miss that their fans support their team even when they lose games? And they make more money than us? And can pay him more?

Yeah, like, all of that?

Guys, I was kinda joking about Spurrier. I realize that's not practical, but he said wave your magic wand.

Among people we could actually get, I go with someone like Fisher or Cutcliffe.

Well 71, it won't be easy, but the notion so often seen on both boards as to nobody better is available or affordable is rubbish, imo. Where were the likes of Richt, Grobe, Tubberville, Davis, Meyer, Saban, Miles, ETAL...before they became household names!? There are many many more coaches available out there with a more current view of CFB than what we have seen now for yearssss.

Chan being a GREAT individual, and he damned well is, does NOT make him a great coach.

We can go in a lot of directions!

Proven NFL coordinator
Proven College coach
Proven College coordinator
Lower Division
Unproven of the above

What ever happened to (was it Jimmy Robinson) that was one of the finalist when CCG was hired?

The one thing that's for sure, is the next great college coach is out there and very few people have heard of him. No one knew who Coach K was when Duke hired him as basketball coach. Just because a bunch of fans don't know who we should go after is meaningless.

Skip Holtz and Gary Schiano can coach.

Maybe Rodriguez would rather live in Atl than Morgantown?

Schiano and Rodriguez would cost $$$.

I would interview Charlie Strong, John Tenuta, John Bond, Chris Hatcher, and Chris Peterson.

Greg Schiano you mean?

Rutgers sucks now anyways.

RR isn't leaving for GT.

Bobby Petrino. He's not going to be at the Falcons next year. But he did have some good teams with a lot of talent at Louisville.

It looks like that program is falling apart without him there now.
