Who then?

he's not a big enough name for me, I'll admit it, i'm a whore. Did u watch the game last nite? GT is at a real crucial point, we can hire P.Johnson (a different version of Chan) or we can hire a real killer in Norm Chow.

As far as marquee names, I'm always reminded of Ohio State hiring Tressel. tOSU could have gotten any marquee coach out there with the cash cow that is tOSU athletics, but instead went for the HC of D-1AA Youngstown State.

What he brought to the table that other bigger names didn't was a thorough knowledge of recruiting. As far as recruiting goes, northeast Ohio (Cleveland) may be the only hotbed of talent north of the Mason-Dixon line. Michigan and tOSU have battled over that region for a very long time, going back to before Woody Hayes, and the talent was pretty much split between the two schools under Cooper.

Tressel was able to use his connections and now that area is dominated by the Ohio State to give players like Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr.

So, for me, that's the biggest thing that Paul Johnson brings to the table. He recruited enough talent to win three national championships and I bet he still knows most of the Georgia coaches.

The only question I have is his ability to coach an offense that will work at the BCS level. Still, he's been very successful at every level he's coached at and he has the Georgia connections.

A good, young coach is Skip Holtz. Offense is diverse, QB's actually play pretty well. He has a great personality, good with alumni and media, players like him. He's put together a good staff and done a nice job at ECU. Lou's son would be given a fair shake by the media.

I see only one problem - we have a very bad history hiring ECU coaches.

I won't support anyone related to Lou.

NORM CHOW or bust!

Not pushing an offensive philsophy....

If you find Chan's offense too risky, you'll love Bobby Johnson's.

just saying if you can make Vandy competitive in the SEC (currently 2-3) you may be able to accomplish more at GT (starting off better relative to the competition, playing against weaker competition in the ACC vs.SEC). Vandy was a laughingstock for years (last bowl 1982) but they are in games every week. They play Wake on Nov.24 - they are in last place in SEC east but may well be favored against the 2nd or 3rd best team in the ACC. Plus, coming from Vandy he has to recruit the same type student-athlete as GT.

I like guys like Grobe,Spurrier,Bobby Johnson - guys who can produce at the traditionally smaller, academic schools. My theory is that most competent coaches, including Chan, can win 7-10 games each year at the football factories.

Pocket watch, see my answer above...

Why would he leave Wunderbilt of the SEC for us in a weaker conference?

to your question. It is easier to win in the ACC, therefore easier to compete for championships in the ACC, which increases one's job security and therefore earnings potential. I would consider it a smart career move, especially if you are currently at a Vandy or a perennial SEC bottom feeder. Not sure a guy wants to leave a Fla. or LSU for a GT job.

Bobby Johnson isn't good enough for the job. That would be making a lateral move, maybe even a step back.

I don't want Paul Johnson either, but floridajacket makes a good point about why he may be a good fit.

NORM CHOW or bust

At this point Edsall would be taking a step down to come here.

If you want a coup for our program...

...but he will be gone as soon as the Husker Nation believes he's ready, which could be as soon as Thanksgiving.

That's a really interesting one, clapper. I remember watching Turner throw the ball to Irving Fryer and hand it to Mike Rozier and make plays all over the place and have heard for a number of years that he's one of the "up and comers" out there.

Purina Dog Chow is 50.

.

However, Pure Na' Dawg Choi, who's getting ready to blow up at our next half-time (he's a cuz to Lil' MoDef Z and Cocoa Puffs) is only 17.
