Why was the defense so bad today?

We lack depth at lb, have poor gap control (even mentioned how bad it is on the radio), and can't play press coverage for some reason.

LBs have been a constant issue with roof which is very disappointing considering its supposed to be his specialty. Scheming seems to be an issue too. I know it worked against vt, but on 4th down who puts a freshman against the stud wr? Why do we play 10 yards off despite screens and slants gashing us?
 
Duke OL climbed to the next level quickly and our DL did not make plays. They ran downhill, even read options were at a quick pace. It seemed like the line of scrimmage was five yards downfield from where the ball was snapped on most plays. I think Cutcliffe really exposed the weakness of the front six and ran right at us. Sad, given the ineptitude of the Duke offense in their six game losing streak.

No answers from PJ at the post-practice presser. When asked if there was anything he could put his finger on about the defense against Duke, "Not really."
 
All but said GA is going to run the train on us. Sounded defeated. Not his typical salty a-hole self.

Agreed. He said COFH has always been competitive whoever won or lost, except in 2012, when UGA 10-1 and ranked #3. That year (he said) they really put beat us pretty bad. (It was 42-10.) This year's UGA team (he said) may be that good or better.

He sounded pretty down about the situation. Even at $8k/day, he may get tired of getting beaten down.

What can you say? I'm sure performances will be evaluated this week and those that made effort against Duke are gonna play and those that ran through the motions won't. This is the seniors last chance. Either go 100% or quit and ride pine

Concur. Time to ruin Georgia’s season. I hope our blocks are so nasty (but legal) that their legs feel like jello for the sec game.

You mean 10 yards. I saw on several occasions they would catch the ball on a five yard route, then our guy would wait for the receiver to run towards him. Seriously! Happened several times. I just don’t understand what we’re doing out there.

I agree, but I erred on the side of minimizing the idiocy. I’ve seen better coverage at a lingerie show.
 
We do very well in press coverage this year. We suck ass when we're not in press coverage. I simply don't understand why we don't just park in press coverage every play.
 
From talking to a Duke fan on the matter, he says that basically what happened was Duke has good RBs and a good running game, and Duke's OC was not using them properly. Apparently Cuttcliffe took shit over in the second half and overrode his OC for the first time this season. So that may have something to do with it.
 
If I see another "10 yard cushion on 3rd and 2"...
We need to get better. Fast.
 
Looking at the picture--not only are we set back off line but the upper slot receiver has already moved toward other /right side and our def has not moved a bit.er,think they made an easy 8 yds on the right side?

Seems kinda dumb for Cutcliffe to wait 10.5 games to jump in.

I'm not buying that.
