Wisenhunt offense on display right is

Very good question. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting a good answer.

the answer is simple. It was pauls choice and todd left that up to paul. No one is saying todd is a micro manager; but when HE has control, to hire, and its under him, what we are seeing is dewberry donation threat tied to whiz and cronyism is influencing him. All three are colleagues and in one case friends. Personally, I do think todd didn't like the roof thing, but didn't want to cross that line.

and if whiz is hired, todd won't micromanage his staff....

Remember the primary reason for hiring Todd was the fact that he was a former Tech player.

Mark Richt was an OC with no head coach experience when hired by uga and did just fine even though he eventually lost control of all things from Crowell to Ezekiel Elliott.

Kirby Smart was a DC with no head coach experience and so far he is doing just fine. His fake punt calls could use some work though.

Wasn’t Jimbo just an OC with no HC experience when FSU hired him?

Mark Richt was QB coach at FSU for 10 years and was also OC for 6 of those years.
Jimbo also has 9 years of LSU/FSU OC experience when he got the HC gig.
Kirby was DC for 8 years at Alabama.

Elliott has been co-OC for 3 years.

Not quite the same.

I think it is good enough to get an interview, but not enough to assume he is the best candidate for the job.

Having a good story and being co-OC on a stacked team where he inherited talent doesn’t really give me much confidence the guy is ‘the guy.’ I’m sure he can recruit, but can he run all areas of a program and be Dabo instead of Dabo’s Co-assistant? I’d interview him, but this would be the highest risk hire IMO. It might have the most upside, but he’d have to wow me and show some understanding of GT in the interview.

I think inherit is a bit of a stretch given how long he's been at Clemson, but I agree with your other points as areas to investigate during an interview. Lots of Saban acolytes got hired away after a short time in Tuscaloosa only to fail elsewhere.

Exactly. No one knows who will be successful. Here are the coaches hired two years ago. Lots of failure.

Shouldn’t Kirby Smart be on this list?

I think it is a mixed bag whether we hire a coordinator vs hire a head coach at a lower division.
