Worst play call ever?

This might have been said already, but what was the deal with the play called on 3 and about 4 on our first drive I believe. We were I would say in fg range and we ran a freaking swing pass and t. choice lost 8 yds. or so. Why did they run that. Why not run a play that does not have a chance of losing yardage and at least getting a fg early in the game?

I going with "To gain 4 yards."

You ask "Why." I asked "Why" also. All I received as an answer were blank stares from some very confused fans.

Last night in my dreams I experienced an epiphany. The reason we ran the play was...

It was a play sent in by Pat Nix speaking to us from another dimension.

Well...we were on the 33 yd line. That would have been a 50 yd FG from there....Bell really needs to be inside 45 so we needed at least 5 on the play or a first down.
Why did we call it? Well..if you run the ball between the tackles and don't get it people would ask the same thing..."why so conservative?".
I personally like getting the ball to a Choice, Cox, Dwyer, Grant, etc. on a swing pass or pass in the flats because we usually block well on the outside...particularly our receivers.
It just did not happen on that play.
We had marched all the way down the field (we did not yet know how good BC's defense would be this night)...and if he had been sprung for a 33 yd. td scamper no one would have questioned the call....right?

I was thoroughly disgusted to see our receivers fail to make their blocks on that play, especially after all the press about how well they block.

bingo! Go back and look at the play (ramblingamblin), the two recievers on that side completely fanned on their blocks, Bebe missed the backer who tackled 'Shard for the loss, but even if he would have made his block, Johnson(i think, could be Smith) missed Tribble who came flying in as well. Wasn't the play call, it was the lack of execution.

Hey, at least it's not nix's run, run, run, punt if we're in our own territory.

It was a "bad play call" according to BeBe. He grossly missed his block.

Why cant somebody make a response without sounding like a 20 year old girl on her period?

Stop being a dumbass. A swing pass has a high probability of gaining 4 yards, particularly on run downs, which is why you call swing passes. You were probably bitching last year at Nix for not calling swing passes on 3rd and 4.

WHY DID HE CALL THE 'LOSE-8-YARDS-PLAY'??!?!? CHAN SHOULD HIRE ME AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, BECAUSE I HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO NEVER CALL THE LOSE-8-YARDS-PLAY!

lol

beej67,
realizes that plays aren't designed to lose yards, and if that makes me sound like a girl to you, then so be it, dipwad.

I'm wondering why the two-yard out route to slow white guys is still in the playbook. Without fail when we run that time of pattern the defenders are on Cox or Peek before they even come close to turning upfield.

I want to know why Pat Clark is always called upon to run the 'commit pass interference and give up an automatic first down' play.

The entire defense was keying on Choice, to think he would be able to slip out onto the flank was naive at best.

I'm wondering how Tech fans can complain about no throws to the flats in the Nix offense, and feel justified complaining about throws to the flats in the Bond offense.

Go ahead and dig up a post like that from me. You're really sucking as a poster lately.

Questioning that call is odd. NOBODY, including Choice, has gotten anything inside the tackles on the BC Defense.

The down was one where a pass would be needed to get 1st down consistently. Conservatives often run there to at least shorten the FG. Occasionally the D, keyed in to stop the pass, gives up a big run. IMHO.

What I don't understand is that I always saw three men covering our three wideout set with the fourth DB in the box. Yet we kept ignoring that and tried to establish the run. I'm more of a fan of 'take what the D gives you'. They dared us to throw and they called our bluff.

News Flash!!!!

We can not execute the swing pass out in the flats. Throw the ball down field.

The last time we ran a successful pass out to the flats was to Rambling Robert Lavette back in the 80's.

We got several players permanently injured including Derrick Steagall our all world number one recruit trying to run this play. We almost got TC blown up on that call (Bay Bay should buy a ticket if he is just going to watch the game).

I suggest the old toss sweep with the TE and outside receivers caving the defensive line in and Mike Cox (where was he Saturday?) knocking some little DB up into the stands while Choice or Dwyer take the ball down field for 5, 10, 15 or more yards. It works everytime we run it.

Stick with what works!

Go Jackets!

That's a total crock. We used it well vs ND and Samford this year, we used it some in the Nix offense as well. Fridge used it. O'Brian used it. It's a good play, especially vs cover 2 zone.

ROFL. I suck as a poster because I'm willing to recognize that swing passes often gain 4 yards?

beej67,
laughing out loud

This may be the dumbest post I've seen in quite a while. You don't remember swing passes while Fridge was the OC? Besides, what possible meaning does it have to equate plays that worked in other years with other teams have to what works today?
