Yellow Jacket Alley!

K Kid is right. Yellow Jacket Alley is great for the players. It's good for the program in general. As fans I feel we do nothing but help the program by supporting this. Besides, it's a heck of a lot of fun.

GO JACKETS!!

Kkid, and GTT. I have no problem with YJA. Its just that not everyone (fans) is on board with it.

My point is that if its not HEAVILY attended, it doesn't work for the players, and that is what its there for. In fact, it acts as a demotivator when sparsely attended.

I too think its great for fans and their kids.. especially the kids, but I want what's best for the team.

Tradition and ritual cannot be manufactured!

GO Jackets!!

I went to most YJA's last year but was late Saturday. My tailgate is in the Student Center/Mgt lot so I ain't going over to YJA and back and then back to the game. I need the exercise but not sure I'd survive going up the hill 4 times.

I was a slacker this time. I admit it.

Next time the tailgate will have to survive
without my for long enough to visit YJA.

ContactBuzz and I will rally the troops from
our tailgating area. =]

More importantly, rituals and traditions are just that. You can't force it. When its forced, its fake and cheap.

Just enjoy Tech football for what it is. Its a great thing, and its unique.
The worst thing to happen is to try to manufacture something that does not naturally happen. Its counterproductive to stage a parade when the fans don't attend. What a horrible impression it must make on players just before they enter the locker room.

If the players know that their fans have a tradition of tailgating to the last minute, they will appreciate that as being part of the Tech experience. If thru natural occurrence the faithful demand a parade, so be it.

Go Jackets! Go Caveman on the Holes!!

1. I agree in part or all with each post in this thread.
2. I see the arguments of Casbah,Cool, and Spelling, most close to my heart.

CAsbah, I loved the vision that came through your post. Would that work at Tech....I certainly would hope so......it sounds great. But I am such a (sorry, Vince Dooley type), I am afraid that too close an encounter with our troops might cause them injury. Someone may trip, some enemy fan may inject him with dawg serum, or such, someone may trip, etc. I know two years ago I reached out to shake one of our monster's hands and missed, leading to my fingernail scratching just above his wrist, for seemed like ten inches long and 3/4 inches deep (I could not enjoy the game for fear that I had caused an injury to one of our Warriors)....In truth, the guy's skin was like cement, but I nevertheless (V.Dooley style fretted the whole game, and am still not to sure but that I caused us to lose the game that day)

3. Cool: I am a lot like in you in some respects. I somehow think you have little tolerance with hypocrisy, and make-believe. I know that ugag did not start anything similar to YJA, until they got jealous of us and our band. They are such mockers. If you have never noticed before, just watch, those ugagers are such ape-ist, mockists, in sooooooo many ways. I have noticed for years how they never originate, many times fail to duplicate, and also specialize as they can only imitate, never create, and for the most part only agitate. Well, what a mission in life!!!!?????

Anyway my humble thoughts, take or leave for what they may or may not be worth: It must start with the students!!!!!! I think Spelling alluded to this. AS long as our students are content to cook/barbecue, play loud music, and throw the frisbe (among other activities) our adult desires for YJA will never reach fruition. My h.o., college/campus life (football # 1) should be surging through the fraternities, sorarities, dormotories,et al, and should enclude the students first of all. (ala: Texas A&M Bondfires, Oldfoggy's reprimending what he thought was a foreign student (but was just a red herring) a couple of years ago. Hey! if the students have no life, youth energy, pride, love for the school, the team.......let us not castigate the oldsters. I think the alums and oldsters do pretty doggone good myself. Some fraternity ought to take this whole thing as a project, maybe several at the time and do something with it. The student body president, and V.P. ought to lead the way. Else, get impeached for dereliction of duties. The student newspaper ought to get on board or go out of print. SOUTH=FOOTBALL!
All adults should play our part.......I have been there each time I have ever been to a game (many) and consider it not a chore, but a priviledge and an opportunity to let our gys know we are behind them.
But, again, imho, it must start within....the campus, the students...boy if they do not care, then they need some motivational education. Some of you will croak, but give them a reward for attending!!!! (Aw, shut up, you egg-heads!!!!)

As said before, I do not disagree with any of the above posts....just have some ideas along these lines myself.
4. If none of this works, I would ask of MsTA (and believe me this is in all sincerety) to use some of her many skills and determination (bordering on obstinancy) to put a spur in the saddle of all us fans; MsTA, you are truly a leader and are not afraid of the devil himself; you have talents that are needed for G.T......MsTA, you know you could do it, I know you are able; only problem is , if you are willing, as well: I will be there, and as many others as possible should also.

Hey, folks, let's # 1 get totally behind our team and encourage them........I personally think that to have to wade through about 2000 people to get to the dressing room would do wonders. Hey, forget about the V., the beer, the "passing of the football, the frisbees, the chatter/fellowship, the steaks/hot dogs/ bbQ/ chili......and sacrifice even more for the team: they deserve it.

My 1.5 cents worth. Now pour on the venom, I can take it. I have the hide of an alligator (still in the egg).!!!

So, where was everyone Saturday!?? I have heard many times on this board how everyone tailgates and gets on campus 3-4 hours before the game. If there are that many fans there - why weren't you at YJA? Team arrives 2 1/2 hours before the game.

The turnout was pathetic! After watching the visitors do something similar on Techwood and it was huge - I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AT YJA! I'm not sure if this has to do with where you tailgate and not wanting to walk over, but I sure would love to see a lot more participation with more energy and enthusiasm!
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I did my part (even in my inebriated state) and I saw several Hivers/Stingtalkers there.

If you've ever seen a "TigerWalk" at Auburn you'd understand - they have a mile (at least) stretch of road and there are people stacked 4 deep on both sides. It is very impressive. Our YJA is very young compared to Auburn's TW. TigerWalk is a staple of an Auburn gameday - YJA hasn't become a part of our gameday yet.

What we (GT fans that go to YJA) have to do is tell everyone we know that YJA is THE PLACE TO BE. Pour your beverage in a plastic cup and get over there.

Went to YJA on Saturday & throughly enjoyed it.. The crowd could've been larger, then again it gave more access to those who attended... The band should start playing 15 minutes before the players get there if possible to alert fans in the area to head over... I think YJA is great, it lets the players put a face on the fans in the stands...

YJA has to get bigger and more boisterous! I am calling GTAA Marketing today and see if I can light a fire under someone there about this situation. I just left my first voice mail message at 9:20am. I mentioned why I was calling - let's see if I get a call back.

Lots of good ideas here. I like the students getting involved as a project. I'm going to suggest this and also suggest - the Stingers driving the campus to pick up tailgating fans and taking them over to YJA.

Use of a BULLHORN or some type of device to alert the tailgaters. Just getting on those buses headed to YJA can be an energy boost! I also think YJA should be moved back on to Techwood like 2 years ago. More space for fans to line up 2-3 deep.

I agree with Casbah62 - THE BAND AND THE DRUMS should set up about 30 minutes before the team arrives and start pumping the crowd!

If I don't get a call back - I'll call again but go a different route!

MSTA,

I've yet to see you take a bite of crow after the
AU victory. Sure you can come up with something
a little better than complaining about YJA?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Crow? One game does not make it ALL BETTER. I prefer to let the season play out. I said in another post months ago, better management of the team, x's/o's, improvement each game, discipline, chemistry and I'd take 6-6 and move on.

You know what happened last year....we slid backwards and all hell broke loose. No getting giddy for me! I support the team but the coach HAS got to get this done!

PS: This thread has nothing to do with the coach/team directly - it's about SCHOOL SPIRIT! As a former cheerleader in the day - I know school spirit! YJA has great potential should be a BIG PART OF GAMEDAY!

One thing that WOULD help is for the players walk to be punctual. Those of us that do have to walk long distances like we do from AMC want to be there but also get a little more tailgating time afterwards. This may help in getting more folks out there. I'll be there regardless, but I do understand why some are very protective, especially over in the AMC lot, of their precious tailgating time!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Because tailgating is spread out - I really believe the use of the Stingers (buses) would be valuable asset to making this happen for EVERYONE!
I'm trying to get someone to respond to me - we'll see.

Picking fans up and taking them over to YJA and then bringing them back is a NO BRAINER. Also, how about some student organizations being a part of the foundation and ALWAYS BEING THERE?

Actually, the banner at the start of Yellow Jacket Alley said it would begin 2 hours before the game. I guess they changed it.

It's 3:05pm same day...
No responses from either one of my voice mail messages!

My 3rd try - I'm emailing one of the Assoc. ADs and copy Coach Gailey!

Let's see if I get ANY RESPONSE!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">The drum line was there about an hour before the players unloaded. They were going through their different rudiments. Even though it was warm-up, it was very tight and precise. Everybody around just sort of stood there and watched; my sister and I waited there awhile and then went toward the end of the street toward Bobby Dodd Way.

When the players had passed, we got in behind them and followed them (I was flattered that one young Tech fan was attempting to high-five me.) I commented to my sister that if the noise and celebration could be as boisterous and lively all the way from where they unload as it was right at the end, we would have a sure-enough happening.

IIRC, except for the drummers, the band waited at the intersection for the players before they started playing. Maybe a smaller contigency of the band could march down ahead of the players (as did the drummers) to add to the festivity and fire up the crowd.

FWIW, I would love to see it become huge, loud, and a tradition, but as LL said, you can't manufacture it.

MsTA, hope you at least get a call back so you can present some of the ideas being thrown aroung here.

The real problem with Yellow Jacket Alley is that all the young, energetic, boisterous type fans have been displaced too far away. As I've argued, the prime tailgating spots should be for tailgaters, not folks that give plenty and just want to park somewhere. I understand why they sell out to the 'money' but folks also have to understand that Yellow Jacket Alley and other issues will always be hurt by these policies.

I religiously went to YJA when parking at Okeefe and it was still made the last few hours of tailgating difficult.

Luckily I did make it since I've found a short term way to tailgate nearby, but when I'm pushed over to (almost) Area III, then it's just too impossible to attend.

I do not think it will survive quite frankly, it's just not an event that will ever have the tools to thrive.

Update... it's 12:39p and I'm calling AGAIN! Received no call back from my first call at 9:30am!
