Georgia is really good this year, but they lose a ton next year. If they can manage to choke in the semis it will be tough for them to make it next year or the next couple.

Our season is over now - take the rational outcome. Stidham played Georgia panicked tonight and Georgia had an answer for Auburn with the middle blitz. Georgia is good, their defense is great, they have a stable of NFL running backs, and their freshman QB is looking like the next Aaron Murray. But... they haven’t seen a guy like Brent Venables and Clemson’s defense is better this year than last year’s national championship defense. Baker Mayfield is a stud, even if he is a douchebag. One of these two will beat Georgia.
I have this ready for when they lose:
I was alive then too. I believe the popularity of Herschel and the championship is what led to the stadium expansion and the true turning of this state to red. Our title a decade later was met with "meh"
QB? I thought that maybe CPJ had reinvented the Wildcat formation under center. QB implies that you are somewhat of a passing threat. We could start by having a QB who doesn't go cheer for UGAg. Just damn.
The Sanford and Son expansion was already approved prior to Walker ever signing with the dwags, so they had enough support even at their mediocre 70s level to expand to 82k. However, you are right that the MNC that year is definitely what created a whole mammoth group of Gen X fans.
I was 10 at the time, growing up in a town, Dalton, with a fair amount of Tech grads, due to the carpet industry. After that year, I saw many kids chuck their Tech gear and put on Red and Black.....we have never recovered.
Lots of that is directly tied to usually beating GT. Most year no matter how bad their season has gone they get to win the last one and hold their heads up. Winning can cure many things. That and they’ve managed to turn uga fandom into simply being from the state. That partly has to do with some of our asshole fans looking down their nose at anyone who did not go to Tech. In all seriousness, at least half of the uga fans I know went to other colleges like Southern, Mercer or Armstrong.

Dang you've found a group of relatively highly educated ugag fans, half the ugag fans I know flunked out of those colleges or didn't go to college. That and they’ve managed to turn uga fandom into simply being from the state. I think that’s the way it is in most states. Good on Auburn and Clemson for having as many sidewalk fans as they do.
Is it time for the Gold Hat Initiative yet?
I once asked a person whom I knew was a sidewalk UGA fan, why he chose to pull for them instead of Tech, or some other team. The guy looked at me sorta puzzled and said, " I live in the State of Georgia, not Georgia Tech. "
Also I had a guy tell me that he had been brought up to hate Tech because we say "To Hell with Georgia". He said he had ancestors who had fought and died for Georgia in the Civil War and his whole family took THWG as an unpardonable swipe at the whole state, not just UGA.

One of the ladies at work uses the same reasoning. "We live in the state of GEORGIA not the state of GEORGIA TECH" I've been toldöööö both of them.
öööö both of them.

In my manufacturing facility, exactly NONE of the UGAg fans attended UGAg. Not one. Of course, not many even went to college. Our biggest asshole UGAg fan at work was banned from ever using my tickets again after I took a group of them to see the Perriloux Jax State game. He was an embarrassing asshole the entire time. Said afterward he'd never step foot in our stadium again. He has asked since why I haven't taken him to a game again to which I tell him "because you were an asshole in my seats to my fans using my free ticket which we have paid multiple thousands of dollars for for years. You said "I'm never stepping foot in this stadium again" after being an asshole to our fans at our game with your constant telling of how much better UGAg is than GT at everything. You slammed our stadium repetitively for basically not being UGAg's"That and they’ve managed to turn uga fandom into simply being from the state.
