Players don't care....

oh in that reference, just motivation, I still can't recall Gailey's team being this obviously bad. 2010 and 2012 are disasters. Gailey had an issue his first year 51-7, but IIRC sure we laid an egg (reggie true freshman loss to duke), but never had a kansas, MTSU and UGA funks like we have with paul

Gaileys last year, maybe, the team quit on him vs BC....but I can't think of anywhere else????

I think the motivation now is as bad as I have ever seen it.

I wouldn't say they quit on him vs. BC. BC had Matt Ryan and it still wasn't nearly as bad as some of the losses we've had this year.

Did you just say "never had ... UGA funks" in reference to 0-6 Gailey?

I clearly state 51-7 the team quit on Chan. But the other 5 none stick out to me as the team quitting on chan. 51-7 was his first year IIRC. Pauls' team quit on him year 5....

this was the point.

I remember plenty of complaints about CCG not being able to motivate 18-20 year olds, having a pro mindset, treating it like a management job, believing players should motivate themselves like in the pros, etc...thus the nostalgia factor for me. We had plenty of flat games with CCG (there were 2 51-7 beatdowns); by 2007 CCG had lost the team and the fans. I'll wait until the season is over before judging where CPJ is.

I remember that too. I know chan did 51-7 vs UGA, and I agree we all felt he lost them in 07

Paul has had two years of this though. 2010 and 2012. Just not sure who is worse at this point. Both less than desired no doubt.

Chan lost me when Taylor Bennett was named the starting QB and then stayed that way the whole season despite burning the redshirt on a guy who would have been an actual upgrade over Reggie Ball. I didn't think he'd be fired when he was, but then again I missed on Groh too. I never think anybody is going to be fired. Hell, right now I don't think CPJ is going to be fired, so we'll probably have a new HC next year.

Gailey simply lost to UGA, other than that first year he didn't suffer beat downs. I agree, even in 2007 it was respectable. I'm not sure CPJ's team quit, the defense may have.

...

I think I have come to conclusion on my answer. He was in over his head when he came here, really believing his scheme could outdue talent. He was in for a rude awakening. He got it and can't reconcile it now.

imo, this last paragraph undermines any assumption that you are taking an objective stand. I'm sympathetic to arguments that we need tougher guys. I'm sympathetic to arguments that CPJ may not be able to maintain team unity and chemistry (perhaps Monken was a bigger factor here). But as soon as you suggest that CPJ's scheme hasn't proven its ability to outdo (I assume that's what you meant) talent, you lose me.

It isn't Paul's job to motivate the players. He said so himself...

Are you joking? Gailey's teams quit on him like twice a year. The vision of Gailey's fat face on the jumbotron telling everyone not to drink and drive after getting run out of our own stadium by a VT team wearing T shirts with magic markered numbers on them, and 40,000 fans booing him in unison, still sticks in my brain. Has it fled yours?

It isn't Paul's job to motivate the players. He said so himself...

Pretty sure he never said this. Quote please.

The thing that pisses me off about the PJ haters is they pretend he said stuff he didn't say, and then levy accusations based on those false quotes.

I'm very lad I never got to see Nesbitt try to throw in a pro-style offense. I don't think I would've liked it one bit.

He didn't look that bad in the single play he ran in that one unimportant game in 2007.

As much as he wasn't a Peyton Manning type, he would have done better than Reggie or Bennett. I hold this religiously as a faith-conviction.

Well, he avoids the media other than fivehead and Suguira softballs so the haters have to make up stuff in lieu of real quotes.

That was ridiculous. And similar to BYU homecoming this year.

Fans are turning. Can't say I blame them.

I want PJ to succeed here so bad I can't stand it, but I am really having doubts.

Also, who is the worst player the team has ever seen?

This

There's also the fallacy where they use quotes from '08 and '09 and attribute them to his current attitude/state of mind.

The mentality surrounding the uga game seems to have been a thing long before CPJ was here. Everyone is aware of the "it's only a game dawg" quote, but it's indicative of the mindset. Honestly, look at how uga responded in '09 after we had beat them. It was their ----ing MISSION to beat us. They take this rivalry seriously, and, while it's not the only reason, it contributes somewhat to the results on the field.

I was sincerely encouraged in '08, when CPJ came in and the primary focus was "BEAT GEORGIA". From spring camp until November, that's what it was, and we got the job done. I don't want to, but find myself thinking that after we got the job done, the game slid down the priority list a bit. It wasn't the same firey intensity that it was. I've even heard a player gush about how jacked up they get for clemson, but I question where that is for uga?

If God had blessed me with the talent, I would be frothing at the mouth to go out there and hit some uga players for 60 minutes. I'm sure the majority of us on here feel the same. I don't know if that same intense level of hate is there for the players, whether it's due to the game being OOC, at the end of the season or whatever. I would love to be dead wrong about this, though.

I have been on a tirade for a few years now saying paul rewards scholarships to undeserving players, has too many of this on his team and not enough are going to REAL recruits that can help us.

The fact is, Paul has and is losing his team because of HIS decisions and the message they send. The guy does not know how to win with a program comprised of kids that had other D1 offers who think they are better than they are (every BCS school deals with this). Paul is used to dealing with overachievers who appreciate a chance to play.

Totally different approach and mindset.

And the record, losing the team, lack of ALL-ACC performers the last three years shows it. Add in a school that doesn't help the situation at all.

The more I think about it, even if the hill lightened up a bit to help (which they should do anyway) I am not sure Paul would capitalize on that!!!!!

I think I have come to conclusion on my answer. He was in over his head when he came here, really believing his scheme could outdue talent. He was in for a rude awakening. He got it and can't reconcile it now.

I think there is a LOT of insight in this post. I have been a constant PJ supporter, but I have learned the hard way that his "system" and/or "approach" has added dramatically to the GT recruiting difficulty/dilemma. And, I truly believe he greatly affects the recruing on BOTH sides of the ball.

It is going to be VERY hard to turn this around. I believe even if he could, he is looking at a total reversal in his thinking (maybe even changing the offense dramatically), and even if he was willing to do that, which he most likely is NOT, it would take 3-5 more years. He isn't going to be given that much time.

I am really starting to get depressed and feel very much like I felt 4-5 years ago when I realized that GT basketball was doomed to much PAIN and SUFFERING until PH was cut loose.

nealy -> UGA a 8.5 out of 10 for hate. How can that be. UGA is a 11, and everything else goes down from there. That statement pre UGA game made me pause...then I thought, well maybe he is afraid of bulletin material, or just dumb.

I'm as pissed and upset as anyone else about this weekend's game, but I think you're grasping at straws here.

It's pretty straightforward that that quote by Nealy is relative to other players on the team... i.e. he's an 8.5 compared with Izaan who is a ten. The question came right after "Who on the team has the most hate for Georgia", and then "Where are you with your hate". Which makes sense - IC is a senior from Georgia, Nealy is a RS-So from Florida. I came to GT from Connecticut, and it took a good two years for me to really get dug in against them; and I know I'm far from having the same experience as you guys who grew up in Georgia and still live there.

UGA is a 10. Anyone on the team, its a 10 when you walk into the door; he has been here 3 years. PLEASE no excuse. Only Gotsis gets an excuse. So if UGA isn't a ten for nealy, then who is? Its a relative ranking. Nealy obviously must know some team he hates more than UGA, coming from florida? Makes no sense to me to state that you don't feel the hate towards your biggest rival as your other teammates. AGain, maybe he is dumb

I will say this though. He played harder than cross.
