Kelly is our next DC

USC's QB may have played awful; but that doesn't explain the USC run game with all the talent USC recruits.
 
He deserves a shot and the money.

The last 6 quarters he has the "attitude" of our D totally turned 180.

They played like they enjoyed it, and they knew what they were doing.

Its not like he was missing wide open receivers either, they were well covered most of the game.
 
I saw ferocity for the first time in years. It looked good.
 
As long as he is willing to mix in some 4-3 I'm thrilled to have him as our next d coord.
 
Uh, UGA? You Kelly campaigners are being way too hasty here. Fortunately, CPJ will make the pick, ahd he'll be more circumspect. I will support Kelly for DC only if CPJ picks him.
 
I dont want to poo poo on Kelly but the USCw QB was way out of sync with his receivers. All game long he was throwing to a window that wasn't even close to his receivers.

D did a great job stopping the run game and batting down passes though, I will take it!
 
Fwiw, they had 281 yrds against ND, 95 rushing, 186 passing.
They had 205 total yards against us, 98 rushing, 107 passing.

We did that without Attouchu for most of the game and I.Johnson the whole game. Even wind assisted that's pretty good considering the reputation of ND's D.
 
I think CCK has the leg up on the competition but don't think he's won the job outright yet.

You do realize that he didn't have much time to implement new scheme before the end of the season, right? Don't be too quick to dismiss this improvement.
 
You guys are all nuts! I guess you forgot about the 40+ UGA and BYU put on us and the 50+ that UNC put on us. But we played good vs. a backup QB throwing in 30mph winds and a team that didn't want to be there so we should hire Kelly??? Silly talk.

This. Let's relax for a minute. We've looked better the last game and a half. The UGA game we were completely manhandled physically and I'm not sure Dick LeBeau would have made a difference. But we gave up 50 points to UNC, Duke drove down the field at will and we finally made a couple of stops to win that game. FSU drove up and down the field on us in the 1st half and we did play better in the 2nd half. You are crazy if you don't think Matt Barkley would have made a difference. I'm happy we've played well the last 6 quarters but I wouldn't call it a shoe in just yet.

Dont good defenses get the Qb out of sync? Yes, Im a little bias towards Coach Kelly, but I saw a D that played with attitude, was more physical vs. blue chip athletes and was fundamentally sound throughout the game.

You defensive haters amaze me. Here's a question for you scatman? How many points did our offense score in those 2 games you cited??? Why aren't you questioning the competence of our OC based on those 2 games??? Hell...defense scored more points in the BYU game than our offense.

Unbelievable. Defense was lights out today. But they get no credit. Neither does CCK.
 
My fear is the stars aligned for him (backup QB, USC didn't care, windstorm, etc) and were gonna pull a bill lewis type hire based on an outlier performance.
 
Anybody posting about UGA or any other game aside from this bowl are going retart. You think you can install a defensive scheme using just the bye week?!?!?

This was the first true test of him as a DC. Yes he had a wind to aid in throwing their QB off. But he also called great run blitzes and it looked like the DL was well schemed against the short pass game.

No one is saying he is an elite DC or will be successful. They are saying he earned the shot to be DC. Also, we don't have any money to afford a high end DC. Instead, we can invest money in an assistant coach who has a lot of energy and is a good recruiter.

Let's see what Kelly gives us.
