New announcer update...

Chris Blair ... is not anywhere near Wes' class as an announcer. Period. Listening to him call a game can be maddening. Southern will have, let's say, a first and 10 at their own 31, he'll call a 4-yard gain and the next play is second and two from the 39. It's a little bit of an exaggeration, but not much of one.

That sounds very Ciraldoish.

Kelly Quinlan said in a post last night there are 4 and Hubby was included.

I don't know that the AJC article is written in stone.

I am pulling pretty hard for Hubby now that I know he is a Tech man.

Well, I guess we might have to get used to hearing put a Jacket six on it.

One of the great things about going to Southern games the last few years is not having to listen to them on the radio, though the color analyst is a real good dude and knows and loves Georgia Southern. He's not bad. The whole "put an Eagle 6 on it" to me is awful.

My first impression is candidate Brandon Gaudin would just use Tech as a stepping stone:

too much self-promotion

From listening to the links in the AJC article, I'd go with Blair or Gaudin. If it's Blair, his contract should prevent him from using any bush league catchphrase resembling, "Put a ____ six on it."

You might be right, but would you rather get someone who is indifferent about their career and is no threat to change jobs?

True, definitely don't want some loser like Munson who won't leave until the Grim Reaper shows him the door.

There's a middle ground though--like Wes! Ambition but a degree of contentedness being voice of the Jackets.

This Gaudin dude fancies himself as some ESPN personality I think.

Munson couldn't leave - he was literally the worst announcer in the history of (sort of) professional sports. After a call, I did not know: 1) who had the ball, 2) who was playing in the game 3) what happened, or 4) what sport he was calling. It's like he assumed we were also watching in the game with him.

"And here we go, and the pass, we have it at the five, the ten! Complete! We're at the 30! They're coming! Oh my goodness, go for it!, the 50! Oh no! Yes! I can't believe it!"

Play: 1st and 10, 2 yard run up the middle.

I never listened to Munson as a pro announcer but I really liked him as the Ga. announcer (yeah, I know...). He had the same passion for the game that Al Ciraldo did. both those guys were enthusiastic and had a bit of "fan" in their presentation that more than made up for deficiencies in technique imo.

I'm with you. Not big on schtick, and it would be good to have a homer on board.

I like Hubbard's voice. Tech grad. He'd be my pick

Didn't know he was a grad (has someone checked the Alumni db?)

He took a job a few years ago (maybe 3-4 yrs) with one of the SoCo schools. I heard him once but only for a few minutes. I don't know. I hope he gained some experience.

All else being equal, I'd certainly give the inside track for this job to a Tech alum. Anybody have a link to some of his voice work? He wasn't mentioned in the AJC article.

I had no problem with Munson either. As a kid, he was almost tradition on the first Saturday in September. I'd always be on the dove field with all my UGA buddies. We couldn't get any Tech radio in NE GA (barely do now) so were forced to listen to Munson. No hate for Munson here, although I did love to hear him on the losing end of a call.
