This is a PJ defining game.

OK, if that is the case, let's just give CPJ a lifetime contract and continue to be the bitch for the dawgs, and everyone else with good players, to screw us every year. Good thinking beej! U are right on!

If you want to get the program better than 8(+/-1) wins per year, then you have to change something other than the coach. Our other two options during the last coaching search were Rick Neuheisel (burned UCLA to the ground) and Will Muschamp (burned Florida to the ground). How do you think we'd have fared with either of them at head coach? THAT is the benchmark against which we must gauge CPJ's success.

GT is the most hamstrung program in the entire ACC, save perhaps Wake Forest. What CPJ's done with our self imposed restrictions is nothing short of remarkable. Firing him would be like firing Dale Earnhardt for not winning the Sprint Cup with a pickup truck.

The Fire CPJ crowd continually fail to answer the question, "And then what?" They seem to want to post a want-ad in the newspaper saying "WANTED: HEAD COACH WHO CAN BEAT UGA WITH LEFTOVERS. APPLY WITHIN."

All of your posts say one thing only: I LIKE TO LOSE.

Paul Johnson is not GT's saviour. He is a football coach that has been highly mediocre except for one season with someone else's recruits.

In a counter point to your bass ackward logic, we could also go the same route as Vandy, Duke and Stanford. One school beat the Dwags this year and another is top ten and the other leads the Coastal. But I guess it's easy to dismiss winning when you accept failure so easily or when your team sucks worse than Duke.

let's give Duke Clemson and GT NC State on the schedule and see who leads the Coastal, is 8-3 and ranked in the top 25...

Vandy has a win over UGA and an ongoing investigation into a gang-bang and coverup by their football team...sounds fun.

Stanford is a private university, something GT might want to consider if it wants to reach Stanford's level of success academically and athletically.

Nope. I just realize that if I want to win the Indy 500 I don't fire driver after driver after sticking him in a pickup truck.

Sooner or later you have to look at the car.

Duke and Vandy can set their admission standards however they like, and both dropped them for their current coaches. They don't even have to publish them. Stanford still has admission standards fairly high, but they are the ONLY destination for academically oriented football players on the entire west coast, while we compete with a dozen such institutions on the east coast. All three schools have dummy majors to hide athletes in, and all three schools pretty much only give out As once you're admitted.

So yes, I agree, we could adopt what Stanford or Duke or Vandy are doing. That'd be nice. Firing a coach will not get us to where they are. In fact, the Board of Regents won't allow GT to get where they are.

You got a big pot of money to throw at GT so we can go private?

Duke under Cutcliffe:
4-8
5-7
3-9
3-9
6-7
9-2
Huh, which of these is the outlier?

PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

Buyout is 2.5 million a year

so as of this year his buyout will be 5 million.

5 million is not alot for his buyout and actually we have the money in the AD fund to do this. Can someone verify that i am reading the contract right?

FYI without a contract extension at the end of this year...Paul is a lame duck to recruits. Kids committing for 2014 can only see a coach who will be there for 2 years.

So what does the AD do? If we use 2014 as wait and see...does it hurt recruiting this coming year...and hurt 2015 since you start recruiting 2015 in 2014?

Does he just give paul 1 year like gregory?

thoughts...i wonder if Bobinski is looking at UGA and the bowl to direct this a bit?

Maybe bobinski is like other ego AD's...wants his guy for football?

Re: PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

We now have 2 fire PJ threads and 2 academic threads at the top of the board on Hate Week.

I respect Wes Durham's football knowledge and inside experience. He offered the observation at a picnic that CPJ was undoubtedly the best possible coach for GT, and far and away the most competitive person in the locker room. This was not an answer to a question; just a sincere opinion of the state of the program. I believe Tech is never going to be a football factory, but competing for an ACC championship and winning 8-9 games per year is a reasonable goal. If any coach out there can accomplish that, CPJ is as close as anybody.

Re: PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

Nope, runs through 2016

you sure...maybe I read an old contract...can you post for me?

this is clearly stated as ending in 2015; and the below is the amendment he signed in 2009 as the extension we gave him...this wasn't the original contract.

This Contract is for a term of eight (8) consecutive years, beginning December 10, 2007,

and ending December 31, 2015.

So it appears it does end in 2015!!!!!

Re: PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

I predict CPJ will be at Tech until he chooses to leave.

Re: PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

It was extended for one extra year in 2009. Google.

so we gave him a contract in 2007
extended it in 2008 or 2009 through 2015
then in 2009 did another 1 year extension through 2016?

bizarre.

You couldn't be more wrong.

But I am NOT getting into this during hate week.

I'm going to focus my hate on all things Dwag. If you want to spend it sowing doubt and dispair as we prepare for the biggest game of the year then that is your choice.

Now is just not the öööö time to be having this discussion.

His mine iz rite. He's just misunderstanding what "hate week" really means.

Just messin' witcha 33, but we get it, you don't like CPJ.

Re: PJ Contract ends Dec 2015 right?

Can we ban 33 until Saturday night?

Seriously.

I do admire his tenacity but he's like a little kid who has to go potty right before its time to board the plane.
