Even CPJ isn't happy, wants to get bought out

So if CPJ leaves, I assume (if nothing else, to save money) we'd ask Roof to be head coach. I think I'd be okay with that. But who would he hire to run the offense?

Does Mike Leach still exist?

etc/MTrain,

We had the same crappy-ass system in 2008/09, and even since then we have been towards the top in yards per play. It's not the öööö system and never has been. The execution and recruiting has been lacking, not the system.

I do think CPJ would be very successful somewhere else, without the recruiting restrictions. I thought about making a thread, in response to all the people clamoring for GOL, "how would CPJ do at UCF?" I think that he would be as or more successful as GOL, given the structural advantages for UCF and how other Florida schools have been down historically the past few years.

I disagree with the recruiting restrictions part....his offense is the recruiting restriction. Hence why our best QB recruit just left.

Yeah. I mean, the academics are A restriction.

But he's still got to talk players into playing in his system. And I don't know that he can do it.

We'd take him back at GaSou in a heartbeat, and we're looking for a new head coach right now. The moveup would give him a chance to run his offense without recruiting restrictions at an up and coming FBS program. GaSou does play GT next season in addition to NC State and Navy. Would be interesting to see PJ on the opposing sideline at Bobby Dodd...GaSou did put 429 rushing yards on Florida in The Swamp this past year, and most of those players are back, including the QB.

Everybody would scream for Roof but what if he turned it down? (think about us being turned down by a guy fired at puke)

There is no chance that Ted Roof would ever turn down GT. I wouldn't even be surprised if we could talk him into pulling a Luke Fickel, coaching a season then stepping back down to DC (which would just be cold).

Ted Roof loves GT.

I just don't see any way that CPJ is here next year now. This kind of stuff doesn't just pop up on CBS and now that it's out how can you let him stay?

Yeah it would make for a diasterous PR move on GT's part to have this continue any further

So basically people would want us to run what Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, UNC, and to some extent VPI and South Carolina run and expect us to be better than them at it while offering half of the commitment to football and academic majors those schools offer...sounds smart.

This is exciting!

If PJ is unhappy enough to say something like this knowing it would get released, I am sure he is willing to negotiate his buyout down to get out of here.

If he'll take $5 million to leave, set him to walkin'...

How about splitting the buyout with Ga Southern? He doesn't want to be here, they are moving up to FBS and would like to make a "splash." He is beloved there. Best of both worlds?

I'd like CPJ to stay another year, FWIW.

I bet the poaching of this year's recruiting class just shifted into high gear.

Not if Ted Roof is made HC, which I would guess is what would happen. The big question is who would the OC be. Maybe that Oregon guy that mmbt floated earlier as HC would be a very good OC pick. I would rather have a zone read option team with more passing than full-blown pro-style, which I don't think we could do successfully given competition for good pro-style QB's.

Winner.
