Louisville about to re-hire Petrino

I wouldn't be so fast on that. Louisville has proven, with Strong, that it can pay big money. Petrino is damaged goods. There will be two ways to get him out of there:

A. Bigger job with bigger money
B. Similar job with WAY more money

Teams in the first category probably will probably have enough other options...and have enough to lose...that they won't come after him.

Give him a couple years of winning at Louisville and there will be many school that qualify in the second category.

I don't think he will leave unless an NFL team takes a flier (doubt it after the last go round), he has another indiscretion, or he puts Louisville on probation.


Remember...Charlie Strong turned down Tennessee to stay at Louisville. He didn't turn it down just because he's a "loyal individual." He went to Texas because...well...its Texas. Jobs don't get much bigger and the money doesn't get much better.

I don't think TIA is saying any such thing. Guys who umlaut people they shouldn't umlaut don't deserve to go to Hell, but they also don't need to be the guiding influence for 18-22 year old young men or in a spotlight representative role for a university either.

Not sure if true, but one source said they had a 9 or so hour meeting detailing the do / don't, and every single action / reaction possible if he is rehired.

To those who seemed so concerned about it - Not our coach.

Concerned with public opinion? - Don't cast stones.
Concerned with winning vs them? - Get better on the field.

I guess we shouldn't have brought Joe back since he obviously still loves to smoke the green, and that's actually illegal.

I'm aware Petrino has done other shady stuff, but perhaps he's learned a little from his mistakes after the Arkansas incident.

It wasn't just that he had the affair, he also gave the woman a job without disclosing a huge conflict of interest and probably passing over more qualified candidates. He is not the type of person I'd want to be giving the gift of (further) riches until he proves he is worthy.

I'm not saying that at all. I just didn't see any Tech fans oppose letting him back after he was caught with illegal drugs and driving under the influence.

I guess if we hired a Preacher as an HC, but filled the rest of the staff with ex cons everything would be ok with you? Or am I putting words into your mouth like you did me?

Nor does smoking some weed carry the same professional liability implications to your employer as does hiring someone for the express purposes of boning them. Joe Ham gets caught smoking weed again, he gets fired. End of story. Petrino gets caught sexually exploiting his employees again and it's likely that both he and Tom Jurich get fired and Louisville eats a big lawsuit with egg all over its face. And if the NCAA randomly decides it's time to bring the hammer again ala PSU, it could get even worse. The wins are worth that much risk to Jurich. That is to say, the wins are worth risking everything. That is to say, winning is the only thing that matters.
