Reasons for Optimisim - Post Tulane Eddition

We made major mistakes against a team we could afford to make mistakes against. Hopefully we can improve a little in time for VT.

Wow, you suck at this. Here's the REAL list:

1. THREE interceptions by the D

  • (1) Neally - returned for a TD.
  • (1) D. Smith - no return
  • (1) L. Austin - no return
2. KICKOFFS - 5/6 resulted in a touchback.
3. RUSHING - 344 yards. 6.0 YARDS PER CARRY
4. PENALTIES - Only 4 penalties. Two of which were false starts. One pass interference. One block in the back.

5. CONDITIONING. This one was very evident. The guys seemed to have plenty left in the tank again this week - even in the hot, humid conditions.

I'm sure there's more.

Haha I wasn't trying to say there wasn't plenty of good things! I just wanted to get the discussion started :) I personally think this team could go undefeated and I've thought so for last 4 seasons soooo.

This season has some interestingly different trends though. We aren't starting off strong against weaker teams and even in the game itself. But we seem to play better throughout the game, and like you said conditioning, and I'm really hopeful that they're gonna surprise us as the season goes on.

My bad. Read it with the wrong intentions. Carry on!

I dont get it....CPJ cant run the TO anymore...he is forced to run scripted pitches, draws, dives, etc. How in 6 years has he not developed an offense capable of running the TO?

Let's put those INTs into perspective - three interceptions against a true freshman QB on second tier so-so team.

There were a lot of well timed pitches by JT. Ran at the defenders to force a decision and didn't pitch until the last second. As far as I remember, he didn't set up A backs to get clobbered like I remember Tevin doing a lot. If anything I think he paid attention well enough to keep it and take the hit a few times when the a back was already covered.

Don't know how much true TO we ran today, but JT seemed to make a lot of good decisions on speed and fullback options.

If he could learn to throw a few fake pitches in there he could be deadly when a guy bites on one.

I am not an expert on this offense at all, but you would think that CPJ wants to run the TO atleast 60% of the time....we havent run the TO on a consistent basis since Nesbitt from what I can remember. I just dont understand what the reasoning is here. Is he simply playing his hand right now? I dont know. Its just frustrating cause I am not sure what we are doing on offense. It seems like we are letting the defenses do what they want to do, and then adjusting to it, rather than making them adjust to what we are doing.

LOL! Wut?

#28 on defense left the field and went straight to the locker room. Might have been heat or a head shot - he seemed very unsteady on his feet.

JRjr

Seemed like an ankle issue. Hopefully not something that keeps him out long.

Not an expert on the offense by any means either, but I think when you run the triple option play you are by definition letting the defense do what it wants. If you make the correct reads and blocks, you, by definition, adjust to what they're doing and exploit it. In theory of course.

I think Tulane was selling out on the b back option today so we purposefully called a lot of double option pitch plays to hit the edge and get an extra blocker.

LOL! Wut?

you tell me....genius...I have no idea what we are doing on offense other than playing madden football....how does what we are doing now against inferior oppenents help us when we play better teams? Seems like pitch right, pitch left....really isnt gonna do much this year
