*OFFICIAL* National Signing Day Thread

So we hope he's smart enough to realize UGA sucks but dumb enough to not get into Stanford?

Are we seriously "saving scholarships" to "balance classes"? If so, what a crock of öööö. Are we going to do that again in 2 years when attrition from injuries and quitters puts us in an uneven situation again? Whoever came up with that idea needs to be shown the door.

You really think that was the idea? They were just covering their asses because the coaches can't close for öööö. We missed out on Campbell, Finley and Johnson, 2 OL and a S, two positions we desperately needed.

Personally, I don't like the way this staff recruits. They need to be a little more lenient instead of implementing the policy of "If you're still looking, we're still looking." That's fine in theory if you coach at a factory where kids are banging down your door, but I don't think the policy works as well at GT.

Doesn't look like Miami has signed even one OL or DL this signing day - according to Scout. They do have three DE's signed with the biggest at 255lbs. Their class really doesn't look any better than ours

so we're not any better than a program who fired their coach? sweet.

Paul is ööööing fired up about this class.

Paul has too much of a stick up his ass of doing it "the right way". That might be fine when you're recruiting at Navy and trying to get kids who have no real dream of being famous or playing in the NFL, but it doesn't work in big boy Power5 football.

We should pay as well as Ole Miss. Two 5*'s and 16 - 4*'s

Getting awfully close to bannable offense.

You don't think that idea came from the head man?

If it did, then I'm off his train. This kind of scholarship management is going to put us at a long term disadvantage, even moreso than we already are. We already take fewer scholarships in a 4 year period than most of the perennial top 25 teams do, and with the Saban system coming to UGA I'm sure they'll be on top of those numbers too. We don't need to be slowing down, we need to be speeding up.

Beyond that, it's absolute farce to believe that you can control the number of scholarship seniors on this team over the long term without repeatedly performing this kind of 'balancing'. People quit, people get injured, people used to leave for the NFL every now and again. Watch when the class of 17 or 18 guys we signed turns out to be 13 or 14 scholarship seniors again in 2020. It's sad to think that anyone anywhere needs to wait 4 years to figure out that this is a mistake.

This. Our 2002 class was pretty lousy and our 2008 class only had a handful of contributors.

And Rivals has Miami's class ranked at #25, while we're ranked at #69 :qgiggity:, sandwiched between Illinois and USF.

Yeah that statement was to save face for not finishing strong. I like the "you're looking, were looking" but just not this year. Allegedly, safety Akeem Byrd committed to us, but also wanted to visit Mizzou so we cut bait only to have him commit to Wake.

This was horrible on our end of planning this spring by not having enough camps to pull talent from. I'm always confused why all our eggs 2 players basket: Campbell, who has been committed a yr and a half and Finley, who finally got some interest from his dream school

Either one is a huge slap in the face. Pretending you knew what you were doing to save face when you really ööööed up is just compounding the incompetence. Either way, incompetence on parade today. It's not going to get the job done in the long run.

EDIT: Also something about dodging accountability. Mild disgust.

Yeah, I read about that. It's the öööö like this that's maddening. Had CPJ been more lenient, the kid would've visited Mizzou and then potentially wound up at GT anyway after his visit. But since he said he was visiting, we cut all ties with him and have nothing to show for it.

Johnson tells Buck and Kincade:

"We're not going to get the guys who are only concerned about football."
