Thats too bad about us "not being interested in" Cutcliffe. He won 10 games at Ole Miss.

he is not a moron screamer like Muttchamp and not a cheating snide like Neverheisel

he knows offense and would be good with Tenuta

he knows the South

many of my Mutt friends say they dont like him because the lost to him so many times in a row

better choice than Edsall or Hatcher, IMO too

given the names floated here, Gailey has by far the best resume. i dont consider a loud voice a required characteristic for HC

My thoughts on Drad's demands:

Hatcher seems to be the most popular...here and on other GT sites.

If "energizing the fanbase" is priority #1, then Hatcher is/should be in the lead.

I grew up in the SEC, and Cutcliffe was never regarded as anything that special.

Everyone likes Hatcher. Everyone that is but BeeBad. Looks like he's already getting ready for his campaign to get Hatcher fired.

Correction. Not everyone likes Hatcher. I can't say that I dislike him but he is not ready for our program. Has he ever recruited D1 prospects to our academic standards? How much experience does he have coaching at this level? He does have a Georgia connection but is it with the type of prospects we are recruiting? Can he assemble a quality coaching staff for this level? Will he be able to convince a couple of our key assistants to stay? A lot of unanswered questions.

I believe his predecessor PJ is a better choice because he has the experience in these areas.

Connections are with HS coaches.
And with the exception of maybe 5 schools, no one else has our academic standards. So it will be tough for anyone to meet those requirements.

Navy has as high or higher standards as we do. While they don't do a lot of recruiting they do some and the HC must make sure the Academy does not have a flunkgate.

Glad to hear about the HS coach connection. As a HS official I cannot stress how important this is. I see the college coaches at a lot of games and it is important that the HS coaches can communicate with them.

Of all our candidates, Hatcher probably has the best in-state connections with HS coaches. I think people also underestimate his standing in coaching circles because of his age and because he has chosen to be his own HC instead of going the coordinator route.

Chris Hatcher+Georgia Tech+(Josh Nesbitt+Jon Dwyer)=WIN

Make sure you remember to follow order of operations.

So just who has recruited D1 athletes to our academic standards? The answer is no one. Tenuta really doesn't recruit, Johnson doesn't recruit the same level of athlete. None of the others have been in a similar position. So I guess your perfect candidate doesn't exist?

That's a very good point Ncjacket.
Im now, only thrilled at 2 candidates that are apparantly still in the running. Rick Neuheisel and if he doesnt get it, Chris Hatcher. (It seems Hatcher is on the B list and maybe even C list, and this concerns me, that drad MIGHT be, looking to Hire Edsall or Muschamp) Unless this interviewing is all just part of the process and Drad already has his man.

I sure hope we don't settle for some defensive coach and miss the opportunity for some young highly energetic head coach that is know for Offense. I think if we keep Tenuta, either of these 2 candidates could possibly get us to the next level pretty quickly. None of the other candidates mentioned would meet the criteria Clough and Drad layed out.

True, I should have stated that no one dislikes him, and he would be supported by the most fans, students, alum, etc.

I can't answer all of your questions, but I will respond to the GA connections question. Hatcher has been around in Georgia for a while as both a player and a coach. That puts him in the door with a lot of local HS coaches and prospects. He's also gaining a very good reputation with the way he led VSU and is now leading GSU to a turnaround.

Am I the only guy left on the planet that thinks Hatcher is a perfect fit? If his GA HS head coaches ties are even 1/2 as strong as some have said, he should at LEAST be a top tier candidate.

Thus far I'm rather lukewarm on the process. I was hoping for a Paul Johnson or a Chris Hatcher. Somebody who knows offense (dammit!). Somebody who would be exciting and get ME excited about Tech football again. Somebody who would put hope back into me like O'Leary did. I remember sitting in Death Valley in 2000 down late and thinking as long as there was time left we could win it. And even down with 90 seconds left, Tech drove the field and seized the win. With Chan if Tech ever got behind you better get out the prayer beads. If they got behind by two scores, it's time to pack it in and call it a day ... they're done for. I want to feel like Tech has a chance in nearly any situation again!! I MISS THAT!

I look at the candidates and I see defense .... defense .... defense. That doesn't bode well for having me excited about Tech's offense, or keeping Tenuta around.

Pardon me if I'm the fly in the ointment ... I just see this is a very very very very very very critical hire, given how most the country is mired in mediocrity right now. This is a chance for Tech to sieze long term control of the ACC and be a real national player again.... and I don't wanna see that screwed up.
