Johnson to retire

No the hypothetical is relevant because anyone can understand random events dictate the outcome of these games most of the time and for a team like GT it bears to reason to give consideration to those losses against UGA that are otherwise inexplicable.
Horse crap. Hypothetical what ifs are never relevant.
What if Taylor Bennett hadn't overthrown Calvin when he was wide open on that fly pattern in the ACCCG?
What if Reggie Ball had realized that it was 4th down and not thrown the ball away against UGA?
What if Demaryius Thomas hadn't dropped the 4th down pass against UGA that hit him right in the hands and we had finished the drive to beat them that year?

Had those happened, we would all have thought much differently about Gailey.

He’s brilliant and will be missed. A great GT coach and a better man. I raise a glass to CPJ.

In which Johnson season would Gailey have only won 3 games?

While we’re asking absurd questions.

Probably any season when he’s down to his 6th string RB and WR while his NFL D Linemen tears his knee and he has 2 top 15 teams OOC and National championship winning Clemson as permanent rival.

The BayBay drop happened in 09, with PJ as HC.
Unless you're referring to 07

No, you were right and I was thinking about 09. I had just been trying to get that memory out of my head for so long that it didn't occur to me that it was with Johnson as HC.

Good job making my point dumbass.

Who did we miss in the end zone in 07 in Gailey's swan song?

I think that was DT as well. But that was also the year that the SEC refs called a phantom pass interference on our DB to extend a UGA drive at the end of the first half and let them score a touchdown instead of punting.

With CPJ I always thought we had a chance for a special season. Even when we sucked, the players never quit on him. I’m going to miss the hell out of him.

He broke the UGA curse in 2008 and that alone makes him a legend. The 2009 VT game, beating Clemson twice in one season to win the ACC, stomping USC and Kiffin, that amazing 2014 team that should’ve been playing for a natty...

Wonder what’s going through his mind if this is a real retirement. He could be calling his last plays ever in a few weeks. 40 years of coaching is a long time...

Well, damn. I've been a fan of GT since my brother first attended in the early 2000s but didn't get into the football program as much until that 2008 season which was coincidentally his first season. I remember how strange the season seemed, with some wins really pulled out of our ass, but after that Miami white out game, I was hooked. Then we beat UGA in that spectacular fashion. Since then, there was a lot of disappointment through the years but also a lot of highs that I didn't think may be possible for GT in the college football environment of today. I've never been passionately one to think he needed to be fired, even with these rougher seasons. That's a whole different conversation as to why I think he was our best option right now but I'm really sad to see him retire now. Really an end to an era, really all I've known consciously as a GT fan. I hope the future bodes well for us, but I'm thankful for what CPJ gave us. Rest well my dude.

He never had even an average NFL QB in Tennessee. Maybe he wouldn't have done great even with one, but without one there's not much of a chance unless you have an all-time great defense.

Again, there are a number of guys I'd rather have than Whisenhunt, but I don't think he's the certain failure many seem to think he is.
No Titans coach has a chance as long as the Adams family owns the team. They will not spend the money required to win. Whisenhunt would be a gamble but any coach we choose will be.

What if there isn't bullshit calls late when Brady ööööing Quinn and Notre Dame played at our place.
What if Steven Hill had caught the pass just prior to the Demaryius Thomas drop?
What if we don't call that ööööing timeout against NC State in 2005 and just hand the ball off to PJ Daniels for the win?
Gailey had a öööö ton of "almost" in his tenure.

CPJ gave me one of the greatest away games I have ever attended 2009 FSU and two additional wins over them in miracle fashion at our place.

Obviously the UGAg wins were fantastic.

I will spend the off season watching Dwyer truck a Virginia defensive back and refusing to be tackled by Duke. I will watch Roddy have one of our greatest games ever against UGAg in 2008. I will watch Burnetts beautiful pick six against the mutts.
Michael Johnson's pick six against Miami

There are so many good memories associated with our team during Johnson's tenure. I will reflect on them and miss our coach greatly. I hope he always considers himself a Tech man.

Salary cap driven league; not an issue of spending money. Titans issue has been coaching and not able to find a consistent QB.

Always thought a lot of CPJ. His many, many records speak for themselves. Best GT coach in my long lifetime. If you had told me when he started that he would be the Coach for 11 years I would have said - wow, sounds like he will have a great career as coach - and he backed it up and did have a great career. Won many big games against Clemson, FSU, Georgia and Virginia Tech. Go have some fun CPJ.
