It's not just about being the best team. It's a mix of being the best team and your on-field results. That's why ND deserves to be in as an undefeated team even though they probably aren't one of the best four, and U[sic]GA doesn't even though they probably are.

agreed with both. Shame is the weakest playoff team in the history of it.

It’s also about being SEC.
 
ND went undefeated on the hardest strength of schedule this year. They’ll likely get crushed in the playoff but they’ve earned a spot. Georgia would be 3rd place in the SEC-W. They’re out.
 
ND played a good schedule and they are as good as teams 2-7 right now.
I think Clemson’s defense needs some attention before the playoffs or they may get waxed by somebody.
