Tony Elliott: I haven’t had any contact with GT

I would be shocked if, at this point, TStan has talked to any coach or their agent.

I would not be surprised if, as part of his duties with the CFP committee, that he is prevented from talking with anyone associated with schools having the potential to be in the playoff.

Still trying to figure out the love fest with a co-OC with no head coach experience. Is it because we think he can be an amazing recruiter?

First, his story is compelling. You have to believe that he can walk into any recruit’s home and be credible. Second, there’s a hope that he could bring a Clemson-offense with the recruiting benefits. Upside is Hewitt taking us to the national championship game. Downside is every year after that with Hewitt.

It’s not that he was associated with Penn State, it’s that’s he was specifically named as knowing about the sexual assaults for years and taking no action.

All these so called sports writers need to stop getting their news scoops from StinGTalk

I mean. That’s what they all say.

That’s just how the game is played. Deny deny deny then accept and pretend you were honest all along.

Yeah, I think Tom Herman to Texas broke about 20 minutes after his Houston team played a game, and he said he was "committed" to Houston in the post-game interview. Scott Frost to Nebraska broke during the AAC championship game last year.

You would be shocked then.

Not the news I was hoping for this morning

You're reading too much into this. Elliott is not the kind of guy that would interview for another job while Clemson is preparing for the conference championship. If we do talk to him, it will probably be early this week now that Clemson has some time before their next game.

I would imagine he’s been making moves since PJ said he was wavering mid season and to be honest, probably had a plan since he was hired. TS is a nimble navigator

Are you high?

This certainly doesn't mean that TStan isn't interested, and it's exactly the right way for Elliott to handle the rumors and speculation that fly in these liminal periods. This quote – "Obviously, if it's the Lords time, He'll provide an opportunity" – makes it clear that he is interested in becoming the HC of GT, at least in general terms. (I realize he doesn't mention GT specifically, but obviously we've been linked to him more than anybody else in the past few days.)

My biggest concern is that I'd prefer to hire a HC rather than a coordinator. If there's one thing CPJ's tenure has taught us it's that dominance on one side of the ball might just not be enough.

On the other hand, I wonder if a NC-winning coordinator like Elliott has more inherent credibility with recruits than a G5 (or lower) HC like Satterfield. And honestly, being HC at a smaller program like App St probably doesn't come close to comparing to the job requirements at a P5 school. I wonder what App St's latest athletics fundraiser was trying to raise. Probably not $125 mil.

Final thought: Chad Morris hasn't exactly lit it up since leaving Clemson. He was uninspiring at SMU and somehow managed to parlay that into an SEC HC position at Arkansas where they just completed their first-ever 10 loss season. But I guess we all already knew that being a great coordinator hardly guarantees being a great HC.

I’m not sure what will happen with Elliott this week but it appears he is hitting the recruiting trail and prepping for the playoff. The team has a pizza party in Clemson this morning, so, unless he skipped that, it appears he isn’t coming to GT for an interview any time soon.

There are no interviews other than Whiz that we know about and Elliott and Collins are the only others we know are interested. Not looking good...

Are there desirable coaches out there that don't have responsibilities this time of year? That doesn't mean anything. They don't play ND for four weeks, and he's got plenty of time to prep for that. If he's interested, they will certainly find time to talk. Either by phone or they'll meet at an airport hotel or TStan will fly to him or whatever. No way a pizza party is going to prevent the guy from continuing up the professional ladder.
