This certainly doesn't mean that TStan isn't interested, and it's exactly the right way for Elliott to handle the rumors and speculation that fly in these liminal periods. This quote – "Obviously, if it's the Lords time, He'll provide an opportunity" – makes it clear that he is interested in becoming the HC of GT, at least in general terms. (I realize he doesn't mention GT specifically, but obviously we've been linked to him more than anybody else in the past few days.)
My biggest concern is that I'd prefer to hire a HC rather than a coordinator. If there's one thing CPJ's tenure has taught us it's that dominance on one side of the ball might just not be enough.
On the other hand, I wonder if a NC-winning coordinator like Elliott has more inherent credibility with recruits than a G5 (or lower) HC like Satterfield. And honestly, being HC at a smaller program like App St probably doesn't come close to comparing to the job requirements at a P5 school. I wonder what App St's latest athletics fundraiser was trying to raise. Probably not $125 mil.
Final thought: Chad Morris hasn't exactly lit it up since leaving Clemson. He was uninspiring at SMU and somehow managed to parlay that into an SEC HC position at Arkansas where just completed their first-ever 10 loss season. But I guess we all already knew that being a great coordinator hardly guarantees being a great HC.
