To be fair

You've let the vocal minority of douchebags on here get to you. They pissed me off as much as you, and honestly I feel like they deserve 0-12 for failing to recognize what CPJ accomplished and probably contributing to his retirement.

That said, I care infinitely more about Georgia Tech than I do some asshole fans on a message board or even Paul Johnson. I hope CGC is the next coming of Dodd and we become an elite program again. I'm 110% aboard the hype train and I can't wait to see us play next year. I get being sad about the end of the Johnson era, but there's a lot to be excited about in the future.

Most of you are good people... its the bad people on here I want to rain on a little... but rain falls on the good and wicked a like...
CPJ: I came to get my quarterback.

Bud Foster: *Your quarterback*?

CPJ: I recruited him. I trained him. I taught him my playbook for years in Atlanta. I'd say that makes him mine.

CPJ: Bud, you and all your guys couldn't handle Jordan before what makes you think you can handle Oliver now? Only God knows what damage he's prepared to do. I don't think you understand. I didn't come to rescue Oliver from you. I came here to rescue you from him.

Bud Foster: Well, we all appreciate your concern coach, I will try to be extra careful!

CPJ: I'm just amazed he allowed any of your defense to live.

Bud Foster: Is that right?

CPJ: Strictly speaking, Oliver slipped up. You're lucky to be breathing.

Bud Foster: That's just great. Coach, you came out here to find out why one of your quarterbacks took a knee!

CPJ: You picked the wrong man to push.

Bud Foster:No, coach. HE picked the wrong man!

CPJ: That boy's a *heart attack*! He may be the best the Tevin's ever trained. Anything *you're* gonna throw at him, he's been through a hundred times worse! In WORSE places than this!

CPJ: You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in the midline follow, with a man who's the best, with pitches, with dives, with defensive reads. A quarterback who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to make plays that would make a pro action pass QB puke. In Blacksburg, his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To win! Period! Win by attrition. Well Oliver is the best, like Nesbitt, Tevin and JT.

CPJ: [to Foster, who is equipping himself for a final showdown with Oliver] You're going to lose, Bud.

Bud Foster: we always lose. Go dawgs

I went back and forth with the CPJ haters over the years and I am also fully on the CGC hype train. Don't let your feelings toward the haters dampen your fandom.

Remember, CPJ was never going to coach forever and it was unlikely we were going to limit our coaching search to 2 or 3 option guys. This transition was always going to happen and it is happening now because CPJ stepped away, not because of what some stingtalker said.

CGC is not “unproven”.

He gave GT the best recruiting class we’ve ever had in the one year he was recruiting coordinator on The Flats.

Let that sink in.

It was pretty evident Paul Johnson wanted to leave behind a legacy-style of program behind him. I truly believe he foresaw Tech being a 3-O/Spread Option for many years after he retired...something he was unable to do after leaving Georgia Southern.

Does that make him a control freak? Kinda.

Does it make him cocky as hell? Yes.

Does cocky as hell work in P5 football? Hell yes.

I am not anti CGC.

I only sound harsh if you compared my statements about Collins to the hype. It is roses and tulips versus corn comparisons.

I stated facts that he is 15 in 10 after the last coach left that was 20 and 5. The recruiting did not improve and if anything it was less than average for Temple. He did have a good defense at Temple and UF, but the offense was lesss than good. He may be really good and do what CPJ could not... I think this unlikely that he will break 30 years of evidence at GT in recruiting and be better than the top 4 or 5 coaches at GT... but you never know until you try. Remember, CPJ came to us after winning several championships and elevating a service academy to highs not seen. But somehow along the way he forgot how to coach and recruit ... and GT school issues and funding had no impact... and you expect me to drink the koolaid that GT is now better positioned?

But, let CGC prove me wrong and recruit as well as or better than uga... afterall, he has a new AD to back him up. If you are new here, you will not understand my loathing for the negative drum beaters here that came out after every loss to gloat and spew thier unhappiness. I made a promise I intend to keep....
You should start another couple of threads explaining your position so we'll all understand.

Our punting will be lights out.

Sounds like somebody is a Paul Johnson fan. He wasn't fired, he retired. No need to be bitter about excitement for a change. It's also unreasonable for those excited to celebrate at PJ's expense because, to quote PJ himself, it would be revisionist history to act like he hasn't accomplished anything here. In the end, the triple option feels like it has run its course here and it was time for a change. I wouldn't have been upset at a few more years of it though with the right QB. Marshall just wasn't that guy, though.

I think the 5 yard cut rule destroyed our outside blocking and handcuffed his scheme more than he let on. For a coach who threw the ball all over the place with the Rainbow Warriors I thought he would compensate with the pass.
Class move to retire-allows a slower and smoother transition. Lets CGC recruit while CPJ coaches bowl and passes the baton.

re:" Our punting will be lights out."?
Not bitter. Harvin is a weapon. One mostly quivered in CPJ spread.

Not to mention the "square up" blocking rule making it harder for our WRs to make a legal crack back block on the safety. That eliminates the effectiveness of some of our adjustments and you'll notice how we haven't been hitting a lot of switch routes since the change.

Dude it's useless. Just let them have fun on their emotional rollercoaster. I'm not sold on his supreme recruiting mystique. I will believe it when I see it. Just because I have this feeling doesn't mean I want CGC to fail or I miss CPJ. It was time for a change and I hope CGC is successful.

What I find odd is that for all these years I was told on this board that Giff Smith was the reason behind the top 15 class and never heard the name Geoff Collins ever mentioned. Now all of a sudden I'm being told that CGC is the man behind that class.

One is a pretty small sample set and not necessarily a good indication of future success. Look at Stanford's up and down recruiting. Not trying to bash the guy, but one really good recruiting class is far from a sure thing.

UF recruited very well before Collins.... Doesn't mean as much to carry a trend.

It was all about Andrew Luck for Stanford. They have been quite pedestrian since he got drafted.
