He may be worthy of a shot at a P5, but that doesn't mean any P5 ADs will pull that trigger. Heck, no ADs in Conf-USA or the Sun Belt or Mountain West or AAC have been willing to.

If he is willing to be flexible so that he will do what it takes to win, instead of having a point to prove about an offensive system, he will stand a better chance of getting his shot.
What kind of arrogant asshole of a coach would try the bolded though??

The 3O works, no doubt about it. It may even more than offset recruiting limitations. However, another factor is that a lot of people consider it to be dirty because of the blocking schemes. The 3O has caused more rule changes in the past 10 years than any other factor. Players don’t want to play against it and coaches don’t want to coach against it.

Navy and Army can get away with it because of the tremendous respect people have for them and their players. Other schools, not so much. I seriously doubt you will see any P5 teams return to it.

Lemme get this straight

Houston wants to fire their HC after a 2nd straight 8-5 season, whereas some colleges will let a guy hang around for 11 years for averaging slightly worse than that

Kudos to Houston for having high standards

Upon Applewhite’s hiring, both UH Board of Regents chairman Tilman Fertita and president Renu Khator famously stated, “We’ll fire coaches at 8-4.”

Let this be a cautionary tale, Applewhite was a shoo-in for P5 level jobs just below the Texas-TAMU level but he got greedy wanting to wait for one of the "destination P5 jobs", he read his press clippings and thought he was too good for a mid-level P5 job and now he might be jettisoned to the scrap heap having to drop back to OC for 5 years before he gets another shot

Examples like this is why HCs jump for the next best opportunity as soon as it arises, you never know when your team is gonna go into a funk that severely limits your career path

In other news, look out for F$U, Taggart did the smart thing and hired Kendal Briles as OC, and that is a home run hire IMO, that Big-12 spread em out offense in the ACC being run with premium Fla Recruits might make some noise in the near future

Taggart probably saved his job with this hire

I would’ve been excited about it.
All I can say is the people who have such passion for Jeff Monken should have spoken up and expressed their desires between the time PJ retired and CGC got hired, instead of spending the last 3 weeks throwing their tantrums and pining for another coach after the fact.
