Funny, I am a "sidewalk" Cubs fan, too, in the sense that I have lived in Atlanta all my life. When I was growing up, all Cubs games were broadcast nationally on WGN, so that played a role in it. I actually became a fan during one of their random good years in '89. But I think a certain percentage of folks gravitate toward an underdog. The Cubs are the flip side of the coin to the Yankees, really. Oddly, my interest in Cubs' baseball has waned a bit since 2016. It's like, where do we go from here?
Interesting how that works. I’m an old codger. Grew up in Atlanta and sold programs at the football games in the late 60’s just so I could get into the games. Grew up a St. Louis Cardinal fan because the old Atlanta Crackers (pre Braves) were the farm team for the Cardinals. Really miss those days!

I see so much complaining about so much red or orange in BDS that I would think that anyone willing to wear gold (the right shade of course) and cheer on the Jackets would be welcome on Stingtalk.
Brother, this is the internet- get a thicker skin. I’m pretty sure many folks here would give you one free beer at their tailgates for being part of the stinGTalk crowd.

Of course you are welcome here. But you don't want us to treat you any different than we treat the GT grads, do you? We treat everybody like crap.

Especially me and yet I am by far the nicest, most level headed poster on the board

Actually worked pretty hard for my GSU degree.
I went there too for some extra classes after I graduated from Tech. My organic chemistry tests at State were more difficult than my friends tests at Tech.

Is there a different type of orgasmic chemistry at Georgia State or something?

Also, it’s not harder to get into uGA these days than Tech, despite what any East Cobb mom says.
This is one of my current favorites. Yet, I still don't know a single person who got into GT but didn't get into uga. My youngest sibling, by far the brightest of the 4 of us and most socially involved etc, did not get into GT but got into uga early.

The only people spreading that fallacy are the ones who didn't get into Tech and ended up going to uga.

Exactly. It’s East Cobb moms justifying why their kid is going to uGA. 18% admission rate vs 50+%. 2 standard deviations difference on SATs.

My wife took biochem at Georgia State and that class was a joke compared to what it was at GT. I also took calculus at both places and had the same experience.

And my contemporaries who went to uga when it was party school central. There is a lot of chest beating about how hard it is to get into uga now.

Why did you have to take calculus at both places? Credits didn't transfer?

Every school says that now, and it's partially supported by the data. Not too long ago, uGA had a 70% admission rate and GT had a 50% admission rate. Now uGA is at 55% and GT is at 18%. Johns Hopkins went from 60% to 11% over a decade and Penn went from 35% to 5%.

Why the dramatic change? Colleges are obsessed with USNWR rankings, and as a result are getting better at targeting certain students to boost applications and lower admission rates. Even MaTech hires people for the sole purpose of traveling Georgia to convince average students to apply to Tech in order to boost applications and lower admission rate. The "guaranteed transfer offer" is their value proposition.

They aren’t saying that uga is now harder to get into than 2000 uga. They are saying that uga is as hard or harder to get into as Tech.
