Funny, I am a "sidewalk" Cubs fan, too, in the sense that I have lived in Atlanta all my life. When I was growing up, all Cubs games were broadcast nationally on WGN, so that played a role in it. I actually became a fan during one of their random good years in '89. But I think a certain percentage of folks gravitate toward an underdog. The Cubs are the flip side of the coin to the Yankees, really. Oddly, my interest in Cubs' baseball has waned a bit since 2016. It's like, where do we go from here?
Interesting how that works. I’m an old codger. Grew up in Atlanta and sold programs at the football games in the late 60’s just so I could get into the games. Grew up a St. Louis Cardinal fan because the old Atlanta Crackers (pre Braves) were the farm team for the Cardinals. Really miss those days!
