In this disaster of a season everyone has their culprits to blame. For me it goes back to Dan Radakovich. In the firing of Gailey to hire Paul Johnson he was showing his own belief that to win in football we needed to follow the lead of service academies. We had never before given in to such despair over our limitations that we grouped ourselves with Army, Navy and Air Force. Gailey and O’Leary before him showed we were capable of winning with regularity, without taking the academy route. If you wanted to take the next step in strengthening the program, going the service academy route was not the answer. (I know we had run the triple option before, but when Pepper was hired Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas were running the wishbone)

Paul Johnson did a good job. He won a lot of games. But, the talent level sunk to being pretty equal to the military schools. And now, we are trying to win without taking the academy approach. The uphill climb will be long and steep. Collins is not the person I would have chosen for the rebuild. But, he is at the helm and I will be patient. I believe it will take six years to get the program turned around.

I was never a DRad fan. I just don’t see decisions he made that improved our teams over the long run. I think he alienated some of the older, long time supporters. And, he was quick to seek greener pastures. He was followed by a dismal AD. It is not just Collins facing a long rebuild. Stansbury has quite a challenge.

How did you settle on 6 years? That's a little extreme. We are probably a couple of decent O-linemen away from being a middle of the pack Coastal team. DRad's share of blame for the current situation of GT athletics pales in comparison to Bobinski's share.
 
The whole CPJ era was predicated on CPJ’s quote of “...what you’re doing isn’t working. Why not try something else...?”

We tried it, it worked quite well and this was one of the most decorated eras in our history. It has come to an end and we’re now trying something different again. Life is evolving naturally

I said six years because that is the year that a coach’s fifth year seniors are his recruits. The class we signed last Dec-Feb were recruited by Johnson. I think next year’s schedule is going to be a killer. The hope is that UCF is in decline. If not, playing ND, UGA and UCF is tough. By year three we should see some improvement. But, I think our situation is analogous to the Curry years. We were better in year 3, took a step back in year 4, were better in year 5, but the first really outstanding team and first bowl was in 1985 - year six. Of course, early on Curry was playing Bama, ND, UGA, Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee - at least four from this six each year.

Agreed, plus the added bonus of lack of depth due to different personnel needs from the option. Our skill positions look ACC caliber, actually.

D-Rad was a horrible AD and that’s why he hired Paul Johnson.

Must be why Clemson, a factory hired him. Cause he’s terrible.

I was told by a player who played for Dodd that, Radakovich did not want to hire CPJ. The big money alumni wanted Johnson, Muschamp was the choice of Radakovich.
