Mason is a beast

Give it another year for the OL to adjust and grow in the new system, and Mason-Griffin-Gibbs (in any order) will have the entire ACC sucking wind by the 2nd quarter next year.

I said his ability to break tackles and fall forward was like Emmitt Smith.

I didn’t say he was the next coming of Emmitt Smith.

Speaking of Mason-Griffin-Gibbs, I really like the split back set we've run a few times. It allows us to get our most talented players on the field, it gives us some more creative option potential, and it gives us the ability to help our blockers more.

IIRC the key 4th down pickup we had late in the game was out of this formation. It looked like speed option to the right, and it could have been a really big play if the WR (didn't see who) hadn't whiffed on his block.
 
The only negatives he really has are pass catching (not sure if he’s bad but he’s rarely used in this way), speed, and vision. His vision on the second level is good but he often has trouble reading blocks to get through the line. I’m not sure if he’s bad at it because of lack of experience at doing it (something he was asked to do as a B-Back) or if he just lacks the talent to do so. I’m really hoping he continues to develop. He’s got a lot of potential.

I feel like I remember reading practice reports saying he had good hands. He was even playing some A-back before he ended up taking overt as B-back last year I could be wrong, though.
 
Jordan Mason has been beasting. No doubt about that. However, I'd like to see Jerry Howard get more touches. I feel like he's on the cusp of also being a star player.

To me this is the biggest improvement that Coach Pat has made so far. Two backs give us not only more options in the running game for the defense to be looking at, but also help shore up the weak OL pass blocking and/or give us enhanced ability to do a little bit of play action passing.

In short, the two back formation forces the DL to be a little less aggressive, I believe.

No way. Only ultra elite backs are going in the first round anymore (think Bama RB or Travis Etienne) and I love Macon, but he isn't elite. He's a solid college back but not sure if he has the top end speed or receiving skills to even get drafted.

Yep. Dude is a baller. He could have been very effective in CPJ's offense, but I think our current offense is also evolving to fit him really well. Looks like maybe CGC and CDP were serious about tailoring the offense to fit the players.

he's got a young JoeHam look right now. Still raw and making Frosh mistakes but there's a ton of potential there and he's very unselfish. I'm glad PJ ignored him last year so he's got an extra year in this offense.

As am I. It still pisses me off that we could have Nesbitt starting for 4 years, but lost an entire year for a few wildcat plays in 2007.

That looked like we missed a block or something there. 2 guys ran free to the mesh, so JG had to keep it even though the DE read would dictate a dive. It looks like the dude that JPM juked should have been the pitch read, so that could have been an even bigger play if we'd run it smoothly.
