From what I can tell the playoff will be expanded to 6 or 8 teams with P5 autobids in the near future.

What are your best arguments against expanding the playoff ?

I think they will not expand because of the existing contracts. Too many players to get all of them to agree with expanding.

A 4 loss conference champion could wind up with a natty.

I’m still in favor of expanding but eventually this will happen.

There are not four good enough teams this year as it is. It should be LSU Ohio st and Clemson this year. Head and shoulders above all the rest. No need for 8 teams.

To get tech in the playoff. I used to say this because the option in a back to back playoff system would have been gangbusters
Need depth to survive a playoff. We had a little depth early on in Paul's tenure but then some of our starting 22 was getting suspect. We WOULD NOT last past the early rounds.

Only real negative as far as I can tell is that you have teams playing too many games.

The overwhelming positive, though, is that there should be a way for every team to win the national championship on the field. Shouldn’t be a scenario where someone goes undefeated and misses the playoff, regardless of conference. Need at least 8 slots to allow all conference champs in (and in that scenario you need some super conference champions)

I really don’t care if App State can go undefeated and is left out of a playoff. I am certainly fine if the NCAA removes players from having to be students and then we allow any number of teams to be in the playoff. The last part is intriguing to me, I don’t see a point for conference championships unless the majors get an auto bid and those should be limited to the ACC, BiG, PAC, Sec, big 12.

8 team playoff. Add American to P6. All P6 champs in. G4 champs are matched up in a super conference championship and the 2 winners are in. No independents. If a 4 loss team beats a 1 loss team in the conference championship, the 1 loss team is out. They had their shot.

That isn’t going to happen. When the top three or 4 from the Sec are included in a playoff you will realize how hard your opinion for 8 teams blows

There has been 7 different Coastal winners in the last 7 years. Of those seven, which team was best? I say Tech in 2014 was the best Coastal winner. I think that team would have gone deep into an expanded playoff field.

Maybe the NCAA mbb tourney would be a good reason not to do it.

Plus if they expand it, n.d. is somehow going to be guaranteed a spot if they don’t lose more than 2 games per year.

4 teams is enough if you wipe out this abominable committee and go back to the BCS computers, taking the top 4 *conference champions* only.

In my model it would be impossible for more than 1 SEC team to make the playoff
