Coach Collins Press Conference

The worst thing about this press conference was when Collins said he was keeping a list of people who weren't loyal to him and when he said he's been successful everywhere he's been. Three million dollars a year is what a guy gets for results, not promises.
When he said that, it struck me as highly defensive. At one point I thought he was about to start crying. He doesn't seem to have much of a thick skin nor is he particularly emotionally even-keeled. This is bothersome to me. To be clear, I am not a CPJ apologist and I welcomed the coaching change. Like I said before, I will reserve final judgement on CGC until after the '22 season but I am very wary of him at this point.

You don't think those are TRUTHs?

When you are finishing in the top 25 regularly (around 2000); have a Heisman runner up and finish in good bowls, then you are in the national conversation.
Sometimes facts are disparaging to the group in question and feelings get hurt. Since the fact itself is immutable, that means only the one presenting the facts can be attacked.

People knock KQ but I never understood why. He's not my first choice to have a beer with but he knows his job and as far as I can tell, he does his job. I respect that.

And the folks who refer to his physique are small-minded doofuses.
He is a good source of information and I cite him often. Charitably, I will say he often lacks tact and self-awareness. So I am not above laughing when he finds himself in awkward situations.

By constantly talking about how he is recruiting more talented players for starters. He also constantly talks about how GT was in the "national conversation" back when he was with the staff in the early 2000's. That is simply not true.
1997: 7-5 final ranking:25
1998: 10-2 final ranking 10
1999: 8-4 final ranking 17
2000: 9-3 final ranking 18
2001: 8-5 final ranking 24

Certainly we were in the conversation for a consistent top 25 team. If we can win 8 games a year with a 10 or 11 win year sprinkled in I consider that a success.

Alot more people knew our players and watched our games in the early to mid 2000s. Reggie ball and Calvin Johnson were household names. We were on Gameday like 4 different times

GT has a higher profile this year than any since 2014.

Sport guys only cared to know one thing about us: they run the option. I loved the option but it got old that was all anyone talked about.

And judging from the poll, lots of other fans agree with you. Although, once competitive expectations of beating uga will happen, as they should.

Collins was with us 99-2001. He was not there for Ball or Calvin. We were however a big deal back then. During his time we were in the top 25 35 of the 48 weeks he was here.

For comparison sake we were ranked in 0 of the 48 weeks the three seasons before prior to Collins joining. We have not been a ranked team since the end of September 2015.

In the past 30 years we have had 12 seasons where we were never ranked:
- 1993
- 1994
- 1995
- 2002
- 2003
- 2004
- 2012
- 2013
- 2016
- 2017
- 2018
- 2019

We are currently on an unprecedented (at least since the 1980s) run of irrelevance.

Any big time football program will have fans that will want to see some results by year 2. Not discussing whether that’s reasonable or not, but this is the truth. FSU fans started asking for Norvell’s head after game 1. Media will ask questions, sometimes dumb questions, to reflect fans’ displeasure. If Collins doesn’t realize honeymoon is over he’s gonna be angry in a lot of press conferences this year.

That is a stupid standard. Just because other fan bases are stupid doesn’t mean we have to be. Plus, they are on their 3rd coach in 4 years and who knows if they got it right.

* We aren’t a big time program that can recruit in the top 10; that would make rebuilding much easier and quicker

* GT had a major rebuild that any objective analysis said would take 3 years to get the roster right and start being competitive.

That was his second go round and he was just there that year. When he’s talking about national relevance he’s talking GOL days.

I know you guys like to think highly of yourselves but we’re not any smarter than anyone else when it comes to football emotions.

We also had a coach that whipped the assess of the weak

CPJ looks like mother Theresa compared to GOL
