Is 6-16 acceptable?

This team just completed a slate of 3 games in 13 days -after no games for 4 weeks

Can we knock it off with this öööö? A normal schedule is 3 games in 15 days. Does two days really matter that much to a bunch of 20 year olds coming off a month’s rest? And it’s not like we were playing Clemson, ND, and Ohio State - we had Duke, NC State, and Pitt.

The thing that sucked was the timing of losing so many guys to injury/COVID/opt-out right before the short week, but “3 games against mediocre opponents on slightly less than normal rest” is a dumb thing to cry about.

I forgot to add that Pitt was off last week. So there’s that also.

You can't just throw away an extra day here and there and say it doesn't matter with a violent game like football. Guys struggle getting out of bed the next morning when played at this level on intensity. Per CGC, we had a couple of guys who couldn't even participate in the limited practice time available because of the load they carried the last few games prior.

Is 5-17 acceptable?

It's 1988 and we're 2 years into this Bobby Ross experiment but is this record acceptable?

Not trolling. Honest question
This is such a stupid take. Compare Collins head coaching record to Ross’ prior to coming Tech. Ross had consistent success at Maryland. Multiple Top 25 teams. Ross was not ‘an experiment.’ Collins took over a Temple team and at best kept it the program from dropping off after Rhule left. At this point, Collins has a higher chance of being the next Bill Lewis rather than Bobby Ross. I’m hoping that he just needs another year or two to really settle into being a head coach and gives us good results.

We've got no choice but to accept it. 6-16 is not something to be happy about, especially given some of the pathetic performances we've had, but recruiting gives reason for optimism and Collins is definitely building a positive culture around the program. GT has had some excellent coaches in its history, so lets hope Collins and Co. live up to that standard.

It’s tough because as a CEO (recruiting + marketing) he’s been an A+ hire. But as a Game Coach (prep + gameday) he’s been a D-ish hire.

We have more talent on the roster than all but 4 teams in the league. You can make an argument that most of the talent is young, but that still means we have roughly equivalent/better talent than half the league. And we still went 3-6 in the league.

That doesn’t give me the warm/fuzzies that we’ll be much more than a .500 league team next year when our team talent is firmly ahead of everybody not named Clemson, UNC, Miami, and FSU.

Losing to Cuse this year is just flat out embarrassing. Arguably worse than Citadel last year.

Huh?
2020 OL Class
6'6 305
6'4 285
6'7 270
6'5 275
6'4 275
6'4 303

2021 OL Class
6'5 320
6'6 310
6'3 300

Some of those in last year's class may need to gain some weight but that's plenty of size.

I was in no way trying to crown Collins the next Bobby Ross but you kind of made my point for me. Even with a proven successful head coach it took a couple years to build up a successful team. Are we supposed to have even LESS patience with a younger coach converting a triple option roster? That doesn't make sense to me.

Depends on what you mean by "acceptable" but I'd say ya. Not because it's good and not that there hasn't been embarrassing moments. It's just that it doesn't really mean anything.

If you want to ask why we are at that record, it just isn't possible to accurately describe detailed reasons; there are too many possible ones to choose from. Many of these possibilities can't be ruled out until a certain amount of time has passed and a certain amount of players have moved through (and out of) the program.

We're not firing him so by definition it is acceptable. So much talk about "being better but maybe not winning more games" all last year. That's exactly what happened. We ARE better than last year but we still have giant holes in the team, personnel-wise.

Also, Geoff probably could have won a game or two more running a different offense, but might not have MJ Morris on the verge of committing if he had.

No I did not. I have seen multiple Tech fans use this Ross argument as proof that any Tech fans who dare question or criticize Collins performance are assholes and any result in the first 2-3 years is acceptable. This is some ‘well we had a similar situation before and it worked out fine’ bullshit. Never said anything about not having patience with Collins either, though it’s concerning that the player fundamentals and play calling issues from last season haven’t been improved.

what in gods name are you basing this theory of fifth best talent on?

Cool. And I'm not saying Collins can't be criticized so don't put that öööö on me. If you're going to criticize him at least do it intelligently and make some points (there's plenty to be made) rather than just point to a record and say, "Hur dur, is this acceptable?"

Ah, you’re new here. The only way you get to having (semi-)intelligent discussions on stingtalk is by creating a thread with a bait title first.

Looks like NCSU slipped in front is us since I checked last. Who in gods name do you think from the ACC is in front of us?

This seems to be a common theme in this fanbase. Thinking that we’re still building from scratch. We’re not. The roster is already better than 2/3 of the conference on paper. We’ll be solidly 5th in 2021. If we’re not winning games it’s not because the roster isn’t good enough.

Your nonsensical reply is still nonsensical.

I think the only reason you were not demanding Ross's head is if you were too young or not born yet.

Not trolling. Honest question.
It depends. Honest answer.

It was acceptable for Ross, even though he had less wins over weaker teams, because he was doing the right things.

It is acceptable for Collins, because his challenge was greater and he is doing the right things. He is building the base first, and that takes time.
