Ellis (Clemson OC)
Tony Elliot, my personal first choice. But as others have pointed out, there's no solid evidence he was interested.

I think Elliot is going to make somebody a great HC someday, though.

There is usually little solid evidence that someone is interested.

Do you know him? Have you even interviewed him?

Or do you think being a good coordinator magically gives you the other skills needed for the head job?

CGC has had 2 very unusual seasons as GT’s head ball coach:

1. Transitioning out of the 3O altogether.
2. Shortened season littered with Covid issues and injuries.

I think his report card starts to count at the end of next season and more importantly, the year after. This has truly been the most bizarre first 2 years any coach has ever dealt with. And he’s still getting us NFL talent.
I would add Brandon Adams' funeral being his first road trip with the team, followed by Bryce Gowdy.

I would also add a paper-thin OL depth chart. Nevermind size. CPJ signed two OL in 2018 and zero in 2019 (Geoff took that class over late in the process). In season 1, they had to swap positions repeatedly just to put warm bodies on both lines to keep up with injuries.

Only recruiting has been breaking his way. I agree that he gets 2 more seasons regardless, but the seat will be searing hot with anything less than 6 wins next year.

Elliott made a comment abut he wasn't appoached aout the GT job. Without saying it. seemed to be peeved off from the comment. Whether he would have ultimately accepted the job if offered or not is pure conjecture.

If true, it's inexcusable for him not to even be considered.

Tony Elliott coaches talent that could win big even if B*ll L**is was their coach. He seems like a fine coach, but that’s a fact.

Elliot seems to be about as exciting as watching grass grow
Instead of taking an easy course, he got a degree in Industrial Engineering and had the best grades of anyone on the football team. He walked on, but earned significant playing time and a scholarship as a junior, being named a co-captain. He's always eschewed the easy way for the hard one, and has overcome the obstacle of a very difficult upbringing to earn everything he has achieved by swimming upstream against the hardships. The man has success written all over him, and I have no doubt he will make someone a great HC some day. His life experiences enable him to relate to many players as few could. A lot of AD's are going to be kicking themselves for passing him over.

The incredible underdog story of Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott (espn.com)

From the article:
"He was such a great leader, and I had such great respect for him," Swinney said. "He was a student of the game, and I could never give him enough. He was a meticulous note-taker and would always ask great questions. He was always about maximizing his ability and loved his teammates. One of the things I always loved about him was that he was always trying to serve his teammates."

Why? He’s never been a HC and at the time had only been a co-OC. He may be a great HC one day but at the time we didn’t even know how he would do on his own as the OC.

Elliott should make someone a great coach eventually. Collins is also on target to be a great coach. Elliott would have experienced culture shock coming to Tech and encountering our limited resources both financially and in terms of talent. Collins was able to hit the ground running due to his experience with our program. Collins is also much more likely to stay here when he begins to succeed. He also hired some great representatives of our program in Brent Key, Marco Coleman and Tashard Choice.

Collins has done some good things here. He wasn't my first choice, but we could have done a lot worse.

Meh, every time someone drops a Clemson coordinator's name as a potential head coaching candidate I remember how much every team's fanbase wanted Chad Morris five years ago.

Yeah I usually view coordinators at factories with the same skepticism that I view NFL QB/RB prospects from factories. Sure they look good behind elite OLs. But how are they gonna look at the next level without that obvious talent advantage.
