Why the Benz?

I realize they can't directly map BDS to MBS but surely they could've figured out how to keep the GT fans together?

Where did the folks with Upper North tix end up?

I have lower level stinger tickets. They gave me seats in 107 about half way up. I was very pleased. The chair backs were a little flimsy but much better than a bench.

I sit in the upper east, section 225, at BDS. I saw one other guy whom I recognize from that section. I sit at the bottom, and he sits at the top. I was in the mezzanine, section 240, and he was in section 241. Other friends of mine who sit all over BDS seem to have been scattered through the mezzanine sections. I am on the 45 yard line in BDS and was on the 30 yard line at the Benz. No complaints though.

Ha, I was in 241 and my seats are 213 north end zone at Tech. You were sitting amongst poor people

I’ve realized that seats in a curved position severely limit your perception on the other side of the field. Was about the 30 and when the team was on the other side of the field the perception was terrible. Never experienced that on the lower level of Bobby Dodd.

I’m upper north. I was in 204 and near a smattering of UNC fans. Saw one get kicked out of the game, that was kinda funny. (Wasn’t close enough to see what happened to cause it.)

Speaking of getting kicked out, props to the guy who did the summersault in the end zone. Very entertaining.

FWIW -MBS is not curved. G-Dome was curved. MBS is straight with angled sections after the 20yd line.
I hung out here for part of the 3rd qtr. You cannot see a damn thing unless looking at the board above or the tv to your left and right. But it's cool watching our team amped up. Saw Randy Rhino walking the sideline. CGC connecting tradition?

So I was at the game. It was the most enjoyable game I've been to in a long time. Granted, a big win, great weather, and night start all contributed to the "party at the club" feel. It was everything CGC is .... big, loud, brash, yet weak (attendance) but fun. This setting was max juice. From the disco lights and fog in the tunnel almost non-stop, to the roaring bass so loud you can't understand the song, etc. Don't get me wrong, if we aren't going to outcoach teams anymore (still being evaluated in my mind) then we MUST have this type of environment to appeal to the kids and therefore get the type of players we've been getting.

It's a shame that we can't have many more younger fans, and I blame that squarely on school demographics. Not encouraging for future growth when the bulk of the clearly identified fans were older (as I'm getting).

But, for the evening I give it a 10/10 for the inaugural game. If we can somehow make it at least 50/50 split next year with Tech fans, then it's a win. And it will be rocking for sure.
 
I upgraded to the 200 level club seats. Ended up right on the 50. I wasn’t drinking because I was driving, but the free food and beer up there was pretty nice. I could get used to a club section like that and if GT offered something like that (and not the bunker club section we currently offer), Im pretty sure I’d go for it.

Maryland has done it. They moved two of their home games to the Ravens stadium and received $7 million for it in the early 2010s.

Obviously it's not the same exact city but it's less than an hour drive from one to the other so I'd say it's basically the same situation as us. Their on campus stadium is also the same size as ours.

Its even sort of got the right color scheme for Pitt. It’s a perfectly fine stadium.

That said, Pitt games there kind of suck - the place is 2/3 empty and there’s no college atmosphere or home field feel (despite a half-baked attempt to hang up some Pitt banners).

Miami is kind of the same deal, except the stadium is worse and in a worse location. Also, öööö Miami.

It’ll be interesting to see how the GT experience in the dome compares to the Pitt and Miami experiences.

Miami should find a piece of land and build their own football stadium for 40,000. Have modern conveniences, but a very small stadium on top of the field (or make for soccer too). They can play at Miami's Stadium for FSU if they want, but they really need a stadium near their school to progress in my opinion.

We're going to get plenty more fans than usual when we play Clemson and ND there. That's how we'll get our extra millions, by selling lots of high priced tickets to fans of popular opposing teams.
 
So what was the split of fans for GT and UNC?

I have only heard a few comments but was it the game and victory that made it a good night or the experience at MBS added something new and good?

(Considering the heat in September, I am all for these games early in the season.)

Probably 20% UNC fans.

I did med school and residency at Tulane, which previously played in the Superdome once their old stadium, the sugar bowl, was demolished in the late 60s. Going to a game there was depressing and no fun. Once they opened the new on campus stadium, even if the brand of football hadn't improved much, the games were so much more fun, and attendance picked up. The first game in that new stadium? GT in 2014, which was hot as hell but a satisfactory outcome. Miami definitely needs their own stadium, in my opinion.

As an aside, Tulane had a "family fun zone" in the end zone, with a pack of 4 season tickets for like $250. I would bring the kids every weekend. If we aren't going to fill the north end zone seats, we should do something like that just to get butts in seats. That said, if we keep winning, the north end zone may fill up without promos.
