IIRC that was total offense. Duke runs high tempo hurry up and has played against some poor defenses, which seriously inflates their raw stats. Both teams ran a lot of plays in our game, so the stats look much better than either offense actually played.

FWIW, our defense is currently ranked 81st. That being said, efficiency ratings like this aren’t particularly reliable until later in the season.

Dook is Top 20 in total offense based on raw numbers. Football Outsiders compiles play by play statistics of every team and every game, FBS games only so stats against weaklings are removed. They also throw out garbage possessions, so if you’re down by 28 with 5 mins left and you have a 90yd TD drive against their 3rd string, that’s thrown out as well. What’s left over are real possessions against D1 teams so real comparative statistical analyses can be made. GT Fans should eat this up, but sadly instead of Moneyball most seem to prefer Dodgeball. Maybe it takes to much effort to read past the headlines and twitterings? I think some have such an irrational hatred of our past, they’ll concoct whatever argument possible to deflect criticism from an underperforming staff as it relates to game preparation & execution. Most businesses fail when they are unwilling to recognize what ails them and take appropriate corrective action. CGC’s description of Dook’s offensive capabilities makes one wonder if he is similarly delusional or thinks our fanbase is comprised of morons. He cannot possibly believe what he was saying. You gotta wonder why he said it, at least I do.

Duke has the 12th ranked Total Offense in FBS. That includes our game.

We are 67th.

No one should be pleased with any aspect of Saturday’s game beyond the W. Maybe the kicking game was decent but the punter shanked one. Lots of areas of improvement to focus on to get another win this year. Duke is not a good team.
