Official argue about the old coach thread

Sure it was stupid. In our current offense Lucas Cox never sees the field, we don't use a blocking back and he would not be a good convert to TE. Nesbitt would have gotten moved to Safety like TO was and we'd be complaining about his coverage skills. Who out of Gibbs, Mason, Smith & Griffin do you think Roddy Jones displaces? I don't even think Griffin has seen the field the past 2 games and neither would Jones. Dwyer would get playing time but nothing close to 1300 yards a season.

I don't see Pnope taking that 2008 roster and doing anything with it.

Gibbs isn't even in this discussion because we are talking about inherited talent, not guys that Collins recruited. Dwyer was going to be an early round draft pick if he had just kept in shape, and you seem to have completely forgotten Demaryus Thomas for some reason. You ought to take the L on this one.

I bet our Strength Coach Lou would have gotten Dwyer a MUCH better draft position than CPJ & Company did.

He’s a moron. Saying you’d rather inherit what CGC did instead of what CPJ did (right after our best recruiting class EVER) makes aerometech the dumbest poster on the board.

holy öööö you are an absolute idiot. Dwyer is better than Mason, Smith, Graham, Yates, and Oliver by himself. Dwyer was probably single-handedly responsible for 3-4 wins in 08. We even lose to Garder-Webb without him.

You cannot seriously be this dumb.

He is the next Bo Jackson right?

I'll wait here while you find where I said I would rather inherit what CGC did than what CPJ did.

I can't believe he actually typed that.

I loved CPJ while he was here and supported his efforts until he quit. Most of us understood that we were going to have some epically bad teams when we transitioned away from his offense, it was like a deal with the devil, there was no getting out of paying for our years of triple-O glory. I’m not mad at CPJ about it- it is what it is. It was 100% worth it imo for those 3 wins over uga and two Orange bowls and a ACC championship, but it was also definitely time for him to ride out into the sunset.

Now I support the new coach and hope like hell that he succeeds. Do yall see how that works?

Comparing CGC to B. L#wis is also dumb, I feel pretty sure he inherited some decent talent from Ross

What part of that can be argued with? I have never understood why we must pick one coach or the other to support.

Lewis screwed up playing favorites with his QB. Luginbill was mediocre at best.

Actually people are forgetting that during Dwyer's T-Fr season many GT Fans thought he was more "explosive" than Choice was and wanted to give him the starting job then over Choice because back when Dwyer was 210ish pounds and still had all that track speed, he had much home run potential than Choice.

I think he had in the high 400s as far as total rush yards

Losta short memories around here.

However, even once we got the personnel issues sorted out, the offense wasn’t gonna do well going forward because of rule changes. 2 rule changes meant that the offense had to decline. Changes in blocking on the perimeter meant that our WRs could not block out corners to open up lanes the way they could at the beginning of CPJ’s tenure at Tech. In addition to that, changes in downfield blocking rules meant that the advantage cut blocks gave us (allowing the Olinemen to go downfield and clear out secondary defenders) was basically eliminated making his strategy of lighter and nimbler Olinemen unviable. And it meant that what used to be 20-80 yard runs were reduced to 10-15 yard runs at best, increasing the number of plays to score furthering the impact of turnovers, negative plays and penalties.

After NCAA rules changes shouldn't a Guy that many around here call a genius on Offense and "great Gameday HC", shouldn't a Guy like that be able to simply adjust to the Rules Changes?

After all, all the other HCs did?

Can anyone explain why our Genius-in-Residence HC was unable to adjust to the new Rules?

Does anyone know how many AL Managers in MLB quit after they started using the DH?

I'll give you a hint:

The answer starts with "z" and ends with "o"

If tomorrow the NCAA rules the forward pass illegal, I'm sure Mike Leach, as an offensive genius, can just scheme around that, right?

While this example is ridiculous, you can see how your logic is terrible. Rules changes will affect some schemes more than others.

As for CPJ, those rules changes hit around the same time as the lack of support from Bobinski and some terrible recruiting classes. The rules changes certainly hurt us with what limited production from subpar recruiting classes. We weren't as easily able to scheme and execute ourselves to wins. It was somewhat of a perfect storm.

I always imagine what would have happened if Bobinski wasn't hired and we had better support for football and recruiting. At the very least we end up with better personnel and an easier transition.

Yes, Bobinski and his gutting of the recruiting budget blossomed in the 15 and 16 classes. Furthermore, his complete absence put more face time between CPJ and the donors. There was no one to grease the wheels and it further hurt funding.

CGC has worked the donors well so far. It will be interesting if he has to let go of a Tech man or two during the off season. That is a huge drawback of bringing alumni onto the staff.

If GT FB had an Alabama Recruiting Budget and 100 Analysts on payroll to break down HS Film, the Recruits and the HS HCs in the State would have rejected GT FB under the previous Guy just as much and it would've been a big waste of Money.

In States like GA with Elite HS FB Talent where a lot of HS Players make it to the NFL (relatively speaking), no amount of Money or Staff Support would convince many to accept GT FB.

You get 1 chance to to impress the NFL, if there are 20 guys that Play your same spot, and 10 have similar Ht.-Wgt-Speed-Strength measurables, then at that point the NFL looks at Film and they will draft the Player that they ESTIMATE can adapt to the NFL Game the quickest, then, you, having played in a Triple Option Off will slide down the Draft Boards and LOSE MONEY compared to others that the NFL GMs feel are a lower risk.

More support from MBob wasn't going to change those dynamics.

CPJ's hard headed azz should've changed, with all that Talent within a 2hr Drive of Grant Field, why were we even running the Triple to begin with?

You run the Triple in places with little to no HS FB Talent, aka Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, or some other crappy flyover State like that, not in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia

It is always amazing to see Clemson pregame and the amount of coaches and trainers and staff they have onboard. I guess there is no limit to the # you can have. Seems like they have a coach or trainer for every few players. Pregame warmups, they have 8-9 staff watching the opposing team warm up, positioning themselves at midfield so the other team knows they are being watched. I noticed Pitt was imitating that a bit, only they don't have the staff numbers.

Well, FWIW, the avatar of PJ in his Twitter is still him repping the GT gear.
Like he said after he announced he was done, "I'll always be a Georgia Tech fan."

Wonder if he has moved to Arizona yet. He was not on the schedule of speakers this fall for the Macon Touchdown Club. which he had done even after he left Tech.
