#GTvsUVA - Coach Collins Postgame Press Conference

An optimistic thought: Our big problem to fix is defense and we've got a defensive specialist. To me there's more hope for improvement there than there was in the Paul Johnson years. (Though I doubt Collins has the same willingness to replace assistants.)

maybe Collins can also improve to 11 wins. I am hoping also

@PressManCoverage , what ever happened to playing press man coverage? We do not... we play the same tired soft ass zone game after game. If we're not gonna stop anyone, then may as well play some press man to we look cool doing it.
I agree we should be more aggressive and force the issue, I'd rather give up big plays trying to bring heat on opposing QBs than sitting back dropping 8 and then giving up a worse explosion Play because we blew an open field Tackle or "lost our Leverage" as CGC put it.

I sure wish all this cute sounding coach-speak existed back when I played HS FB, there might have been less profanity flying around after Games.

I laugh at a lot of CGC's Post Game pressers because of the new kindler, gentler language that the modern Day FB Coach has to speak, even Saban has softened up, sometimes I can tell if these guys are talking about FB or a failing Division of a Corporation (lost our leverage)

I expect some shuffling in the off season. We’ll see if that is the problem. I don’t think it’s just the DC.

One of our best NFL players is a lineman. We routinely had All Conference lineman. Sewak was a bad recruiter But he was able to get his players to implement his offense. He’s certainly better at the coaching aspect than Key has shown so far.
This is absolutely revisionist history. Just go look back at how many threads we had on how bad our OL was. We've sucked on OL since Todd Spencer left.

One thing CGC has shown is an ability to fix issues. Look at the difference in penalties from year 1 to year 3. Our kicking game has improved considerably as well. He even improved Chick management by assigning that time to someone in game. I’m optimistic he will continue to improve the areas the team is struggling in.

I didn’t say we didn’t have threads constantly. I said Sewak was good at implementing his system. Many of the posters here didn’t like the style we tried to implement. But we did routinely produce all conference lineman in the interior of the line and have a very strong run game for the most part. Pass pro was definitely not great. Sewak also had apparently less talent to work with so he must’ve been pretty good at coaching it up.

I don’t necessarily equate the number of threads on a message board to the quality of a coaching staff.

The CPJ fanboyz over hype 1 Shaq Mason in 11 years worth of CPJ Recruits.

Did any other CPJ Recruited OL ever get a tryout with the NFL, much less drafted, none that I remember?

I don't remember regularly having all ACC OLs either, maybe a 2nd Team or a 3rd Team OG, cause our Tackles never made all ACC from what I remember out of the guys that CPJ recruited.

Bedford was a cute story because of his academics, but he never really dominated games like an all ACC Center

Uzzi, Bedford, Burden, Braun just off the top of my head were all first teamers

Burden got some tryouts. Uzzi did not after he got knee surgery leading up to the draft and teams did not medically clear him or something.

Yeah, because sportswriters would vote one of our guys due to the fact that our rushing stats were best in the conference. It doesn't change reality that we were not good at executing the blocking schemes the last 5 years except for second half of the 2014 season. If you really search your mind, you will remember the frustration of our linemen spinning around to watch their missed assignment tackle our guy. We just gave up 48 pts, though, so I find it hard to see why it is relevant to make the first post you made on this subject.

I stepped into a side argument about Sewak. I don’t think he was as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

I agree the offense looked a lot better this week but the defense they faced was also pretty terrible. VPI will be a decent barometer in terms of how improved the offense and offensive line is. Their defense is serviceable.
