2022 Transfer Portal Tracker

I heard people say the OL shoulder injuries were due to the 3O blocking techniques, which is probably true. There were less knee injuries than in a traditional offense. I also think our linemen got injured less under the option simply due to less snaps.

I don’t remember OL injuries really being a problem before.

It is only a problem now because we are building depth. We might have a bad year in the future by chance, but I wouldn’t expect an unusual number of injuries.
I never heard that. But is it true? Does diving at the knees of a 330lb defensive lineman cause shoulder injuries?

Press, it’s not going to get better on the OLine any time soon. Collins came in and recruited every fat, big OLineman who wasn’t committed so he could talk about how we now ”look” like a P5 program. He signed a big ole boy from my neighborhood and everyone was shocked when he was offered by GT because he wasn’t even a top guy on his high school line, but he was the biggest and looks the part. After seeing several of these Collins recruited guys this year on the OLine it appears the chatter was correct. I say sign as many as we can and hope we can find 5-7 who can actually play. And the youth excuse is just that. By the time you are 19 you can either play ball or not. We have guys completely missing DLineman who are lined up right in front of them. That won’t change just because the calendar turns.
What an idiotic take. OL is one of the toughest spots to recruit because there are so few that fit the mold of size/length needed to play at this level. That's why coaches/recruiters get in on those guys way early and establish relationships. It's hard to recruit OL right out of the gate, so the best practice is take body types you need and hope you can mold them into what you want performance-wise. Also, sure by the time you're 19 you can either play or not, but OL is one of the places where college teams try to get old and stay old. A 22-23 year old with experience at this level will likely man-handle an 18-19 year old every time, unless he's a generational talent.

I did some digging awhile back and almost every team I looked at started one or two freshmen or sophomores on the line. Maybe it's just hard for us.

Nobody on here ever said a damn thing about cut blocking and OL shoulder injuries

Here is the opening post on Errin Joe’s Shoulder injury thread.

I wonder if he got the injury cut blocking. We need to start recruiting more OL. I really believe this blocking scheme is putting more of our guys on the DL than anything else. I've never seen an OL with more shoulder injuries.

That's not right. Below are all of our ACC opponents plus UGAg and Notre Dame this year. In this list of 50 there are:

I don't think he said he had limited it to just our opponents. But I'll let him verify.

Jordan Yates retweeted one of the recruiting site tweets about Tchio transferring, and put a bee emoji on it. He took it down not too long after. Maybe he doesn't want to give it away or spoil the guy's decision?

This is why I skip over posts just so I can read what @GoGATech said. Dude has street cred that everybody else wishes they had.

Went back and found my post.

"Most teams have freshman and sophomores starting. There are 9 redshirt sophomores or younger players starting on offensive line for the top 5 teams.

Niu starts 2 rs freshman, 2 rs sophomores and a senior.

I'm having a hard time believing it takes 4-5 years to build a competent line. 4 years to be very good to great maybe but we should be decent with a sign of things to come by now

*Numbers came from ourlads.com."

Also checked other random teams and most of them had one or two. I guess you could argue a redshirt sophomore isn't young though.

With your numbers, 6/10 started one or two sophomores or younger. 7/11 counting niu so I stand by my comment that most teams start one or two freshmen or sophomores.

Been saying for weeks now , in 2021 Player Development is different than it was in the 1980s.

HS Kids play 1 sport, they lift year round, some HS Kids have their Parents pay for Trainers that create customized training programs for their projected position in College, plus they have the Camp Circuit, where they go to DLine or OLine Camps taught by former College Coaches or former College and Pro Players.

HS Recruits at the "right level" enter College ready to contribute by the time they get used to the speed of the game the 2nd half of their 1st year out of HS.

Nowadays Schools only RS for injuries, and younger players routinely top the Depth Charts, even along the LoS.

You are right, it's just hard for us.

Thanks for the Info, great research!!

We have Top250 National Recruits that play OLine & DLine in our own Backyard.

Just maybe when you run a system that doesn't help OLinemen get to the NFL and do it for 11 straight years, that does GT FB no favors

Remember to a child, that is from the 2nd grade until their Senior Year, to them that seems like an entire lifetime.

CGC has to go tell Kids, that for their entire lives where they have ignored ugly triple option FB at GT, and now CGC has to pitch to them forget what you have seen for a lifetime, choose me & GT FB on blind faith.

All those guys in here that worship CPJ don't realize what he created by being so inflexible with his "system" , they don't realize how Talented Recruits perceive GT FB, we are lucky that CGC has been able to Recruit the guys he has.

Do you guys realize that Talented Recruits don't give a hoot about 40 yr plans, do you realize that Talented Recruits haven't watched GT FB Games for 11 years, do you guy realize that Talented Recruits might not even be able to get our Games on their Cable TV in their markets.

Go do some research and ask yourselves why the Youngest Braun came down to UGA & UF, with him eventually choosing UF, despite 2 older brothers playing at GT and graduating from GT?

I'll give you that. Numbers show that more than half do have one or 2 sophomores or younger. However, like I said, 2 of those teams are Clemson and UGAg where those freshman and sophomore players are top 250 national recruits. Those are the young players that you expect to start/play a majority of snaps. The other 4 you have Notre Dame starting a freshman with 4 very experienced others, Miami is starting 2 sophomores and that probably plays a factor in them being mediocre this year, Virginia Tech and Duke the last 2 starting underclassmen OL and they both have losing records. The teams with upperclassmen and experience on the OL are the ones performing well. I didn't include NIU because I was comparing to other P5 programs. I expect schools in smaller conferences to play more underclassmen all across the board because many times when you see these transfer GR SR linemen they come from those smaller schools.

I agree that the goal is to "get old, stay old" on the lines and it's a big difference in playing one or two vs four or five. My point was, after three (more realisticly two) years, we should have a few that could contribute. Throw in transfers, and we should have a somewhat competent line that may look young but gives us hope for the next two years.

I put niu in because I doubt they are signing the big time recruits like Clemson and the dwags.

I was going to try to pull something like this together over the weekend and looked like a ton of work. Kudos to you, fine sir!

And that we should, next year. Jordan Williams, Wing Green, Cade Kootsouradis, Ryan Spiers, Paula Viapulu, and Nick Pendley will all be in their 3rd year. Weston Franklin and Jakiah Leftwich will be in their 2nd. If we get Tchio from Clemson (extremely real possibility), he will also be in his 3rd year of college ball.
