THE OFFICIAL Firing, House Cleaning, Night of Long Knives, Celebration, Disappointment Thread.

I, for one, need a freaking break after seeing another 3-win season. I am relieved that our season is over and I can watch some good post-season football without thinking of our next beat down.

I'll be ready for next season's punishment by August.
take a sabbatical. ... i would also say that college fantasy football helps tremendously during the regular season when GT is struggling. keeps me occupied with other games.

It was in the AJC. Perhaps, it was before NIU or after Clemson. It was early in the season for sure.

AJC quoted anonymous boosters saying straight up - 6 wins or ded.
You talking about this article?

sitting in upper north for all these years .. really haven't paid much attention to south EZ. just know there are usually (or maybe now used to be) tons of students in north EZ. when i was there it was always lower east but that was 1990's.
South endzone was students and usually full and rowdy when I was at GT (02-06). It has been especially sad to see it go downhill over the years.

Is the south end zone not the student section anymore? I only see UGA fans in it. Maybe 4 Goldfellas.
Yes students sit in the South. I think North is for student block seating, South is General Admission. Not sure you can get in North without being in a block. Sure someone on here knows.

I’ll clarify and then I’m out. I’m not starting a rumor. I’m offering some perspective on what is normal and ethical when making assistant coaching changes.

1) There is nothing wrong with keeping your staff in place through signing day and making changes after that. It literally happens all the time; coaches are constantly moving to new jobs. The early signing day is in 2 weeks not 2 months.

2) My assumption is that Thacker will be on the GT staff in 2022 but nothing will be set in stone until all hiring decisions are made. That is all I’m saying.

Maybe one of the new coordinators will call plays from the booth. I always thought it odd that both of our coordinators were on the sideline.

Patenaude called a couple games from the booth, IIRC, but being QB coach as well, he probably needed to be on the sideline. Thack needed room to jump around and flex.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Just catching up. Was Thacker fired? We had the 106th defense in the country before uga so I assume we’re 130th now.

He was not.Rumor is he might be demoted to LB coach, but it is only speculation at this point.

Dude the administration has spoken and Geoff is still our coach. Give it a rest.

Anyone who didn’t know this when CGC was hired hasn’t followed football recently. CGC is here for two years at least (barring a 3 win season). CGC was given the chance to build his staff. CDP bet on himself and took a low salary and a P5 job. It didn’t pan out. Thacker apparently is respected as a position coach, but needs more time to develop. No different than Key in that capacity.

Now the coordinators will be picked and CGC will have an opportunity to be a CEO HC. If he can’t turn it around in two years, he is done as a HC and will be a DC or lower the rest of his career. If he puts it together, he has greener pastures ahead.

CGC is on the mat for the first time in his career, we’ll see how he responds.

per AJC Thacker has not been fired. and there is much speculation as to what his role will be.
