With the Player Portal in full effect, now having the NIL in play, and constant coaching carousel, the sport is not very armature anymore. This whole notion of being a student is a complete joke and just needs to stop being a requirement at this point.

I dont think there is any coming back from this. We all sounded the alarms 15 years ago when ESPN got in bed with the SEC but so many here were saying "nah, CFB is cyclical and the SEC is just in a temporary uptick." Fast forward to now and it is apparent that the only two viable conferences are the SEC (by a mile) and the Big Ten (due to more than 1 team that is elite). College football has become the SEC premier league, with all other conferences getting the player leftovers after the SEC takes their share. Once OU and UT join the SEC, even the Big Ten may get phased out. I am hardly an alarmist here when I say the SEC has killed the golden goose. Will college football even be watchable ten years from now when the only meaningful national games involve SEC teams? I know I wont care to watch it.

Barely watchable now. We’re a sustained three win team and the mutts are gonna win it all.

While I agree with your assessment of the SEC, the new SEC along with the NIL, Transfer portal, and new $100MM benchmark for coaches contracts has killed College Football. I disagree, however, with your timeframe. It won't take 10 years for it be unwatchable. More like 5 or sooner if not already there.

Ultimately, it's possible that this may be heading where some high school sports have headed, and/or the G league. Companies could form to recruit high school kids for teams that will do nothing but prepare them for the NFL. No SATs, no high school grades, no college classes. Just 2-4 years of 24/7 football development from age 18. They could rent out various stadiums on Saturdays to play. They could even eventually play against "college" teams.

The Sport hasn't been amateur since the founding of the Sport.

Beating their Ivy League Rivals was so important back in the early days of CFB (1890s to early 1900s), that Ivy League schools brought in "ringers" to beat their Ivy League Rivals, that were never in School and never attended classes, in many cases they just gave them degrees if they were really good and were victorious vs their hated Rivals

Before Title IX, in the 40s & 50s - at the larger schools that could draw a lot of fans Players got $100 to $150 dollars in "Laundry Money" along with their scholarship, that would be about $1K to $1,500 or so today if you adjust for inflation.

My point is, is that when you really dig down and look at CFB in depth, it has never been an Amateur Sport, that was just an illusion.

Now that we have a slew of Coaches with 10 yr -$100 million contracts, it's time to pay the players a base stipend on top of the scholarship at all P5 Colleges, maybe $50K, $5K per month for the 10 month school year.

The sport has been dirty & corrupt since it was founded, just like anything else, anywhere in the World that generates a lot of Money.

Remember John McClain in the first "Die Hard" Movie?

I think we let the SEC leave and do their own thing.
Let USC and Oregon join them as well as Ohio Stste and Michigan, Clem and FSU.
I will never watch them, I never watch any SEC games. College football could go back to more enjoyable, maybe create 60 team league. Let them play like the NFL, coaches will get fired half every year. Teams will lose regularly, I’d love it.
We need to stop playing uga anyway, reboot in the state and create a fan base while we don’t play them(like A&M did).

This past weekend was one of the best TV Weekends in the History of the Sport, and that's with COFH being a Dud, the Bourbon Brawl being a dud, and Clemson v south carolina not moving the needle.

Imagine if more ACC Teams didn't have down years, those Rivalry Weekend Games would've meant a lot more

Personally, I enjoy watching good, hard nosed well played CFB, no matter what the Conference is

Remember we used to be a Part of the SEC and then we blew that, can't blame the natural evolution of the Game for our self inflicted mistakes.

I'm curious, why complain about bigger Stadiums, bigger, faster, better players, better facilities, better coaching

The Game is better than it has ever been, and nipping at the heels of the most popular Sport in America, The NFL.

I watch the SEC frequently, just to see what the competition looks like and to see where "the bar" has been reset, you should try it, you would probably enjoy it.

Before NIL,Portal, sec/espn marriage, etc. we had Cfb, now we have cFB. Like the lawyer said in the Kemp trial with wtte: At least we can make em a security guard instead of a garbage man. Woof woof. Today's and tmw's game makes the term "bagman" used in the past, downright honorable.

Agree 100% We only have ourselves to blame for the problems we have now. If Dodd hadn't been such a dumbass in 1964, we would still be in the SEC reaping the financial windfall every year with SEC revenue money and our facilities would be top notch.

I think it’s time for 18 year olds to be eligible for the NFL draft. I see a lawsuit soon.
I think so too. Funny - the rule prohibiting drafting underclassmen was supposed to "protect" college football but I think its safe to say that it has backfired. Even more ironic, removing the restriction will, I think, stabilize it. It won't be anywhere near as bad as the effect of a "one and done" to a basketball program. There won't be that many underclassmen drafted but it will eventually dispel the myth that you have to play for a powerhouse program to get the attention of the NFL.
