With the Player Portal in full effect, now having the NIL in play, and constant coaching carousel, the sport is not very armature anymore. This whole notion of being a student is a complete joke and just needs to stop being a requirement at this point.
The Sport hasn't been amateur since the founding of the Sport.
Beating their Ivy League Rivals was so important back in the early days of CFB (1890s to early 1900s), that Ivy League schools brought in "ringers" to beat their Ivy League Rivals, that were never in School and never attended classes, in many cases they just gave them degrees if they were really good and were victorious vs their hated Rivals
Before Title IX, in the 40s & 50s - at the larger schools that could draw a lot of fans Players got $100 to $150 dollars in "Laundry Money" along with their scholarship, that would be about $1K to $1,500 or so today if you adjust for inflation.
My point is, is that when you really dig down and look at CFB in depth, it has never been an Amateur Sport, that was just an illusion.
Now that we have a slew of Coaches with 10 yr -$100 million contracts, it's time to pay the players a base stipend on top of the scholarship at all P5 Colleges, maybe $50K, $5K per month for the 10 month school year.
The sport has been dirty & corrupt since it was founded, just like anything else, anywhere in the World that generates a lot of Money.
Remember John McClain in the first "Die Hard" Movie?
