Chip Long - New OC

Every day I log in and it’s “coaches suck, players suck, transfer suck, the whole athletic department sucks, everything sucks, we need to be like Alabama”

Some of those things do suck, but I can't fathom that we are getting a transfer QB we know absolutely nothing about and we are already ööööting on him. I don't have much more patience for that, and I'm already way past the point where I would have pushed the button in the past.

Godsey may not have had the best arm, but he knew where to go with the ball. That’s way more important to GT football than having a guy like JT Daniels who can sling it but no one knows where it will go half the time. When you can throw a dime and know where to go with it you have NFL material. That’s Bryce Young and Trevor. We need a QB to know where to go with the ball. That‘ll win a lot of games in college. It won’t get you in the playoffs but for GT we just need to stabilize.

I don't see how having an extra 4star QB like Baily could be a bad thing.Hope we get him.

We have a buncha guys around here that know next to nothing about Portal guys, then claim he's the passer as soon as he steps foot on campus, IMO that craps on the current guys on the depth chart.

Making lofty claims about about unseen 3rd stringers based on , I know a guy , who knows another guy, who went to another guy that's a Tennessee insider that fixed my transmission, and that's how I know that 2 coaching staffs were wrong to have him on the 3rd string and we'll be lucky to have the guy is beyond reason.

A portal guy that has started and has stats is one things, lauding other schools 3rd stringers over our Starters, hell eff yeah I'm going to balance the scales.

Especially when the guy didn't choose GT coming out of HS

Can we get back to conversation about the OC, please, and stop ööööting on players that have yet to suit up?

From a ND fansite a bio of Long's time at ND

Energizing the Irish
In his first season of calling plays for the Irish, Long led an offense that averaged 34 points per game and set a new single-season record under the Golden Dome with a running game that ran for over 3,500 yards. In addition, 35 touchdowns scored marked the Irish’s highest total in that category in a quarter-century.

Long continued that success with an Irish team that went undefeated during the 2018 regular season and 31 points per contest, with Long helping to create a more balanced attack. Ian Book took over at quarterback in the Irish’s fourth game ended with him throwing for more than 2,600 yards and 19 touchdowns. At running back, Dexter Williams finished with 995 yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games.

His tenure came to an unceremonious ending following the 2019 regular season. Long and Notre Dame mutually parted ways with Long leaving the Irish without a new role lined up before Notre Dame’s bowl appearance in the Camping World Bowl. He was replaced by Tommy Rees in January 2020.

Well, we kind of have to go in word of mouth and hype because, well, not many of us are privy to practices at Tech, or any school for that matter. Nothing wrong with being hopeful for a transfer because good, old fashioned competition for a spot does nothing but help our team. If buddy can come in and sling it through the eye of the needle, I'd warmly welcome him to play over anyone who chose Tech out of HS. You're just being obstinate on the guy as with a lot of your opinions. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but when you continually seemingly kick a potential transfer to protect our current roster, in the end, who are you helping?

Offense went to the playoffs at ND and was a Broyles finalist. Far better resume than P'node. Solid hire for us.
The Broyles award finalist stuff really doesn't impress me. BVG was one once. And he's anse and a bad coach.

I'm not overwhelmed by this hire. If he was such a great OC at ND , then why are we getting him from Tulane?

I don't.

Seems like a good hire to me. And I'm sure he and BK will work together better than BK and Pnode.
"Long's offense runs some similar concepts to the spread that Patenaude used but has more motion, more tight ends and more under the center concepts in short-yardage and the red zone as well as more power running play concepts that all play into the Jackets' current personnel."
Hope so.

Just wanted to add that in the season he was let go they averaged almost 37 points a game but scored 33 in the bowl game he did not coach in. ND lost to UGA & Michigan that year

Curious how the co-OC designation that CBK had looks now. Anyone know if this OC is going QB coach shopping?
